We caught up with Andrew Cotton, Creative Director for Linea Pelle, who filled us in on all you need to know about the current trends — and what we’re going to be seeing next season! Considering the brand have a major celeb following, with chic stars like Nina Dobrev toting around their stylish yet practical designs, who better than to clue us in on what’s hot in the handbag world? Whether you’re wondering how to clean off a purse or you’re just shopping around for a new style, you can definitely benefit by reading up on his expert tips! He filled HollywoodLife.com in on everything he’s seeing, (and loving!), this season.

What’s the best style of bag to take from day to night?
“Cross Bodies rule here! First of all if you’re going out after work they’re easy to throw into your larger work bag. Grab your essentials: lipstick, cell phone, atm card & a couple bills, whatever other little trinkets you may need-Keep it simple, keep it hand free-no fuss, easy!”

Any tips for protecting/cleaning bags?
“Definitely use your protective dust bags if you are not wearing your handbag for an extended period of time. This will help protect against dust & light (especially if your walk-in closet has windows! To clean Linea Pelle handbags, you can just gently blot with a diluted mild detergent to lift stain, as all leathers or handbags are already washed! (Some girls actually throw their Dylans in the washing machine on cold & no to low heat).”

We’re seeing so many cool colors this season, can you take them into fall? If so, how?
“I think belts are the perfect example of how to keep a nod of bright color into Fall especially when paired with neutrals like charcoal or camel or denim. Even some colored summer handbags are Fall worthy -Just keep the color you wear on your body more to a minimum, it’s not Mardi Gras!”

What trends are really popular with handbags right now?
“I think almost anything goes which is amazing! Totes are always key, especially as they can take you from work to play, beach to bar as everything can be tossed in effortlessly. Also, any kinds of cross bodies are key so you can be hands free or sometimes you just don’t want to drag your life around with you! Color, color, color!”

What trends will we see for fall/winter?
“Exotics, furs, studs and embellishments. Still loving vintage & colors are a bit more subdued.”

How can a fashionista pair a colorful bag with her outfit? What should she keep in mind?
“I think color always is most successful when paired with neutrals. So if you ‘re wearing a chic grey or navy ensemble, why not throw on a hit of color like purple, wine or olive, even brights with your look? Or you can always reverse this look and if you tend to wear more colorful clothing this Fall, tone it down with a more neutral handbag of classic black or navy or go crazy & keep the ‘bright train’ going with full on color!”

What shape of bag will be big for fall?
“Lots of satchels, speedys & double handles (all the same, but called Doctor bags for Fall!)”

What’s ‘in’ and what’s ‘out’ when it comes to bags?
“The beauty is that almost all handbags silhouettes are ok. Design & comfort are key and I hate to say it, but functionality usually rules! I love color and I like all sizes generally, but PLEASE stay away from mini backpacks unless you are grabbing some glow sticks and a Hello Kitty t shirt with a (Betsey Johnson) tutu!”
