A Pennsylvania mother allegedly smoked bath salts two days after giving birth, stripped naked and violently punched and kicked the staff in the maternity ward.
Two days after she gave birth, Carla Murphy was charged with aggravated assault and drug counts for her violent rampage at the Altoona Regional Hospital in central Pennsylvania.
The Daily Mail reported that the 31-year-old mother was still in the maternity ward when she smoked bath salts and attacked the staff at the hospital on June 17.
Hospital police were called to subdue Carla after she “stripped, rolled around on the shower floor, and was unable to answer basic questions posed by staff,” according to the Altoona Mirror. She tried to bite a police officer but they were able to handcuff and arrest Carla. She was given the anti-psychotic drug Haldol.
The police searched and found white powder in Carla’s bag that she described as “Disco,” a brand of bath salts.
A later inspection of Carla’s home reportedly uncovered drug paraphernalia including needles, aluminum foil, bath salts containers, and a broken glass bottle with brown residue on it.
Carla was taken to Blair County Prison on a probation violation as she already had an outstanding warrant. Michael W. Stewart, Carla’s live-in boyfriend, has also been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia
