Season after season, the iconic fashion house is a trendsetter for beauty. The haute couture runway inspires some of the best makeup looks in the world. The 2012-2013 winter show makeup was no exception — here’s your first look!
Makeup artist Peter Philips created the makeup look for the 2012-13 Fall Winter Haute Couture Show in Paris. In an interview with Style.com, Peter says of his approach, “I took some [basics] and twisted them in subtle way.” He focused on familiar makeup elements—a smoky eye, an eyeliner and blush application, a French manicure—made modern.
Starting with a clean base, Peter concentrated most of his attention on lids, crafting a “blue/gray metallic eye” that began with a dusting of Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft-Touch Eyeshadow in Furtif that Philips swept across the upper lash line through the crease and underneath the lower lash line. He then applied a thick black liner, which he topped off with a few swipes of Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Black and etched Kohl Liner in Clair, a pale beige, along the inner rims to open the eyes. Blending a swirl of Chanel Joues Constraste Blush in Rose Initial onto the apples of models’ cheeks, “a bit higher than usual,” Peter finished the face with a neutral pout — Lip Liner in Natural and Rouge Allure lipstick in Evanescente.
For the nails, Peter went for a modern version of the classic Frernch manicure “When we were playing around with the idea of doing a nail polish, we evoked the idea of using two shades on one nail,” he explained. Nails were coated in May, a melon polish from the Spring 2012 show, and the entire nail bed was outlined in a chrome color, rather than just the tip.
