How horrible — a little boy is in critical condition after a firework lodged itself into his arm and he became ‘engulfed in flames.’ His family remains devastated after witnessing the horrific accident.

Little Ben Bertini is now in a medically induced coma at the Shriners Hospital in Boston after a fireworks explosion “went off like a bomb” and wounded 11 people at the Pelham, New Hampshire home.

The July 4 explosion was so serious, that Ben, 2, had to be induced into a coma to deal with his injuries.

“He was completely engulfed in flames,” said Ben’s great-grandfather, Skip Harrington, in a Daily Mail report. “We’re just devastated.”

He speculated that a child with a sparkler may have caused the accident. Police are investigating the exact cause. “The whole thing went off like a bomb,” he said. “It’s a freak accident.”

Ben’s mother, Jessica Bertini, 32, rushed to her son’s aid after the fireworks had exploded even though she had injuries herself.

“She ran through the flames to get him,” said Skip.
