'Teen Wolf' Recap: The Kanima Strikes Again — Can Jackson Be Saved?

Mon, July 2, 2012 11:58pm EST by 61 Comments

Plus, Allison uncovers a major twist that could lead to the end of the Kanima — and Jackson!

The July 2 episode of Teen Wolf picked up right where last week’s game-changer left off, with a pissed-off Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) chasing after Jackson (Colton Haynes) in all his Kanima glory. And, naturally, their game of cat-and-mouse ended at the one place you’d expect a shape-shifting reptile to hide from his hairy pursuers: A gay club!

After a whole lot of bumping and grinding — including some super-awkward shots of Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) lost in a sea of men that I really hope become gifs tomorrow — Scott (Tyler Posey) managed to subdue a cold, confused, naked Jackson… which actually sounds like a pretty standard night out at the clubs to me. It should also be noted that Stiles helped him put his pants back on, “one leg at a time.”

While we’re talking about the club scene: Am I the only person confused by Danny’s (Keahu Kahuanui) whole existence? Are these kids really friends with him, because other than a few words exchanged in the locker room and science class, they don’t really seem all that close. I’d like to see Danny really develop a story line of his own, because right now, he feels out of place. He basically just appears when needed, but could just as easily be replaced by a Danny-shaped robot.

But I digress…

Lydia (Holland Roden) also had a close encounter of the bizarre kind when that handsome stranger returned to spit some awkward game in her backyard. He gave her a flower, and told her that if she didn’t still have it at school the next day, he’d be “really hurt.” He’s cute, but as all Teen Wolf fans know, there’s a very thin line between cute and crazy.

And here’s another thing all good Teen Wolf fans know: The big surprises are saved for the very end! Thanks to Lydia and her random ability to translate Archaic Latin — seriously, is that a required course for these kids? — Allison (Crystal Reed) discovered that the Kanima isn’t seeking a “friend,” as they previously thought. It’s seeking a master. That means someone is controlling Jackson!

Who do YOU think is controlling Jackson? And what the heck is up with Lydia’s sketchy new suitor? Drop a comment with your thoughts and theories from this week’s episode!

Regardless of who is controlling the Kanima, there can’t possibly be two Kaminas as everyone is suggesting and if there is then the only other person it could be is Gerard and he is using the pills to suppress his transformation. And if you think about it there can’t be two Kamina’s as the 2nd Kanima would also have to have a master and it would be a big, stupid endless loop and if you also listen to what the characters say, they say that Kanima’s are sent to kill murderers, and after a while they can freely kill and also they are not in control of their transformations on full moons the same as werewolves as the Kanima is a form of werewolf and only Jackson is going around killing people and the whole purpose of a Kanima is to kill people so if there’s only one killing people, there can’t possibly be a 2nd(unless for Gerard).

i think lidia and the teacher have something going together because the teacher is always talking about intelligence and lidia is smart as we know but she tries to hide it

You are all forgetting about the photographer . He’s always been suspicious to me & I agree about there being two kanima’s because Jackson was poisoned by the venom & it can’t be poisoned by its own venom so it had to of been the other kanima’s venom . Something I don’t understand is why did Jackson try to kill Danny if he’s his bestfriend , or was it the other kanima ? Can’t wait until the next episode .

All we can definitely say is A) the master of the Kamina is an adult that works at the school.
I personally think it’s Gerard because Jackson bowed to him when he showed up a d bow else did Gerard know where Jacson was? Also, it makes sense that he’d use the Kamina to kill off the werewolves.
But I personally also think that A) Lydia cannot be human still… She DID get bit by an Alpha afterall so she has to be something by now.
B) That science teacher is in on something we just don’t know what yet.

The writers are making it seem like Gerard is the master which means he probably isn’t. Kind of like how they made it seem like Lydia was the Kanima, and she wasn’t. He IS some type of were-creature (maybe a kanima). That is why Kanima Jackson didn’t attack him, and why he takes pills. The pills probably suppress his inner beast.

The master could be just about anyone, but I think it is the school counselor, the science teacher, or Jackson’s dad. The Einstein bumper sticker was the biggest hint. With several impressive degrees, the counselor obviously values intelligence. The science teacher was quoting Einstein earlier in the episode. Jackson’s dad is a lawyer – a profession that is associated with intelligence.

The car with the bumper sticker was not the kind of car you would expect a successful lawyer to be driving. That takes Jackson’s dad out of the picture, but leaves the two public school employees. The quote was about valuing imagination, and not knowledge. This is the type of quote that a school counselor would have on their car, not a brainy chemistry teacher. Finally, the driver was wearing gloves. This was to hide the person’s hands, and their identity, from viewers. If the master is in fact the counselor, the gloves could have been hiding her skin tone, polished nails, and petite hands. If it were one of the other two men, the person hand would have just looked like a middle aged white guy’s hand – no need for gloves.

So there you have it, the counselor is the master.

Also, early sightings of the Kanima made me think that it was female. It shrieked like a woman, and I think I remember seeing kanima breasts at one point. I think the counselor, in addition to being the master, is also a kanima.

Well I honestly think its Gerard, but I also think there is another Kanima because Jackson recognized Stiles and didn’t jump at the chance to paralyze him. If Jackson wouldn’t have paralyzed Stiles, he wouldn’t have paralyzed Danny. Its just not likely.
Back to Gerard though, that Kanima was trying so hard to kill Mr.Argent but than just stopped when Gerard hopped out of the car. And if you remember at the Le-cross game in episode 4 he was wearing black gloves, kind of like the ones in the car at the end of episode 5. I agree it could also be a way for Gerard to kill off all the werewolfs. Especially if he doesn’t want to do the dirty work himself.

Thats my opinion.
I could be wrong.

I believe that it is the school counsler, she started showing up this season out of the blew, and jackson does need a romance intrest. I do believe that Danny needs to be part of the ” Scooby Gang”. Especially after Jackson I’m everybody’s type comment. I want Allyson to put her Granfather in his place, Especially since they made a point the drill it in our heads that the Women are the leaders. i do have to say the show has stepped it up from last season.

I think it’s the other Kanima is the vet something aint right with him. but after last night episode i’m having second thought that it might be the lady Lydia was talking to and said the Kanima was looking for a friend. she looked a lil suspicious reading the papers and she lied to Allyson (even though she said she know a lil bit about latin.)

The other kanima is the science teacher. I believe his name is Adrian or something. I came to this conclusion from last weeks episode. At the end of last weeks episode they showed the other in the car. Well they made a point to show the bumper sticker on that car. It said “Imagination is more important than knowledge” I googled and that is an Albert Einstien quote. If anyone else remembers at the beginnig of last weeks episode in Chemistry class, for some reason that seemed to have nothing to do with anything the science teacher was quoting Einstein. So I think it is the teacher. I still have not figured out why he is doing it but that is what I think!

It has to be the Grandpa. He is going to use the kanima/Jackson to destroy the werewolves and once they are gone he will take him out. The grandpa basically says it straight up when he is in the car that he could basically use it to kill them first.

This show is the bomb first of all and second i cant get over the people the kanima has killed they dont make a pattern they say something bout it only killing murders but if it killed one hunter y not kill allisons dad instead of kicking him? Then he parctically bowed at gerard plus isaacs dad wasnt a murderer neither was that mechanic so i think they are not going to let us know what completely going on till the last 3 episodes until then there gonna just give us vague possibilitys but i look forward to it…..

If you think about it though. They were all doing something bad although not murdering. Issacs dad beat the crap out of him all the time, the mechanic was ripping Stiles off by fixing things that didnt need to be fixed and over charging him, and the hunter…well he was a hunter. It is almost like he/they are protecting the good people. Only time will tell.

Theres two kanimas… Jackson and the boy who gave Lydia the flower because when Lydia’s dog ran off u can hear a kanima scream and then he returns the dog to her … The kanima master Is Gerard because when he got out the car when Jackson/the kanima kicked Alison’s dad… JacksOn kneeled to gerard and didn’t hurt him

I don’t believe we have enough information to determine who is controlling the kanima/Jackson. There are still too many questions! First, who even knew Jackson had the abnormal bite? Second, Gerard wasn’t even in town yet and Lydia was off losing her mind in the woods when the kanima started attacking. Third, the killings don’t form a pattern as the victims so far are Issac’s dad, the hunter, and the mechanic. Clearly, whoever wanted Danny eliminated because they think he saw the video and how does anyone even know that bit of information?! Too many unresolved issues, so I’ll be watching! PS – speaking of Lydia, I don’t think she is human but I don’t think she is a werewolf either. Like, Jackson, I think she is another yet to be seen type of creature. All that crazy stuff going on with here can’t be happening for no reason.

i agree because scott only just came to the conclusion he was bit (hense immunity). We can’t forget the AV/lacross player who is obsessed with Allison. Gerard also said he has an idea of what the creature is and certain guidelines it follows(in the beastiary? Lydia translated, anything about rules? or just a master)all in all i agree that we can’t determine who the ‘master’ is

The one controlling Jackson is Allison’s grandfather, and something is up with the pills he’s taking…Jackson, I was surprised to find out he was adopted! Maybe he wants to find his parents? Maybe Danny is his brother, maybe that’s why he was interested in him…

I think it’s Jarad. The way the Kanima walked around him but never attempted to attack. And how Jarad wasn’t even scared or anything. And nobody really knows anything about Jarad so it’s pretty logical. Plus Scott and the others found out about the Kanima from a USB that belongs to Jarad. Not to mention his own son doesn’t even know what the Kanima is.

I wouldn’t say Lydia knowing how to read Archaic Latin all that random. As we learned and continuously see from her, she is beyond intelligent, but she hides it from people. So, it wasn’t much surprise to know she could read it.

Loved tonight’s episode though. Can I just say, WOW!?

Also, I’m really glad this show remembers these kids are still teenagers going to high school who have to deal with the future of college, graduating, keeping up the grades and whatnot. It’s something I really wish The Vampire Diaries could remember. It adds a whole new level to the show in my opinion and keeps it real and grounded.

It’s jacksons mom or dad. He said “They killed me”. Jacksons parents died in a car crash, but the car crash could be a cover up or it wasn’t a “car “accident”

So, now they are giving hints that peter might come back. If peter comes back then it’s possible jacksons mom or dad could already be back.

He never met his parents because he was born right before they died. So really his parents could be anyone because we’ve already been introduced to the controller.
