Rihanna sent a message to Chris before the show — and only HollywoodLife.com can tell you EXCLUSIVELY what she said!

Rihanna and Chris Brown are both up for honors at the 2012 BET Awards, and Chris was thrilled to receive a nod alongside the love of his life. Now we’re also learning that Rihanna reached out to Chris before the ceremony to wish him luck!

Chris, 23, was so happy to hear from Rihanna, 24, prior to his July 1 performance at the Los Angeles show, a source close to him tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

“Rihanna texted Chris today and was was like, ‘Break a leg out there tomorrow, big swag,’” our source says. “Chris was appreciative and it brought a little smile to his face. But y’all know he has a big day tomorrow, so he’s real focused and rehearsing and working out. He’s excited and tomorrow that hard work is paying off. It’s a big week for Chris — beginning with BET tomorrow. The album is on fire!”

Meanwhile, Chris is hoping he’s honored at the show for his hard work and can share the spotlight with Rihanna, another source close to Chris tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

“Chris is pumped for his performance,” our source said. “He’s focused and is there mentally and will bring down the house. He’s more than prepared. Man, you may see history at the show. He’s up for Best Male Artist and guess who’s opposite him for best female artist — y0u know it’s Rihanna. Even he thinks that would be ‘crazy and hella dope’ if he and her both won best artist this year!”
