A young mother paid the ultimate price to save her young daughter when a tornado, brought on by Tropical Storm Debby, ripped through their mobile home.
Heather Town, 32, was found dead 200 feet away from her Venus, Florida home, but her daughter AnnMarie, 3, was found alive in her arms.
Authorities discovered the young girl after hearing her cries from underneath some debris, and she was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“When they found her, she was literally holding her baby, her little girl,” Kim Bass, a witness, told Fox 13. “They took the little child from her because she was having a hard time breathing and she had barbed wire on her and was in a very dense section of woods.”
In an interview with WPTV, Heather’s father, Elmer Town, explained that the sacrifice Heather made for her daughter was a true testament to how great of a mother she was. “[It was] amazing to save her daughter. She’s alive, and her mom saved her,” he said.
Heather’s daughter AnnMarie is still in pain, but is “doing good.”
A mother will go to extreme lengths to do whatever she can to protect her child, and Heather is an excellent example of that.
