This weekend’s arrest is just one of many for the ‘Teen Mom,’ but with her mother, Barbara, having full custody of Jace — Jenelle isn’t at risk of losing him forever, experts say. Read on for more details.
The 20-year-old mom posted bail for $500 after facing four serious charges: possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana up to 1/2 oz., simple assault, and simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance — which was reportedly Klonopin. And even though this isn’t her first run-in with the law, her family most like won’t be at risk of losing baby Jace.
“He is not going to be taken away from her,” Kelly Chang Rickert, a certified law specialist, tells us. “She won’t “automatically lose her kid.”
The only way Jenelle’s mom Barbara — who legally has custody — would be at risk of losing Jace would be if a neighbor, family member or friend, reported concerns to Child Protective Services, Kelly tells us.
Jenelle has allegedly been trying to gain custody back — but after this — it definitely would be more difficult. One thing is for sure though: Jace, despite his young age, will feel the negative effects by his mother’s behavior.
“Stress in the life as a small child can have a detrimental influence on their emotional and even intellectual growth. Too much production of stress hormones can interfere with a child’s ability to concentrate and pay attention and learn new things. It also makes them uneasy and anxious,” child psychologist and parenting expert Dr. Lawrence Balter tells HollywoodLife.com.
Another expert agrees.
“Of course the person who gets hurt in the squabble is the child. And it’s really unfortunate… She [Jenelle] needs to get into immediate psychotherapy,” says psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman, author of Bad Girls: Why Men Love Them & How Good Girls Can Learn Their Secrets.
Poor Jace! Hopefully Jenelle can clean up her act before it’s too late.
