The highly-anticipated Aaron Sorkin drama offers a fascinating look at the politics behind the nightly news — we’re obsessed!
The Newsroom is one of the most buzzed-about new shows of summer, and with a strong cast and real-life news scenarios, it totally delivers!
The June 24 premiere on HBO was carried by the strong lead performance of Jeff Daniels as Will McAvoy, anchor of the top TV news program News Night. When his partner ditches the show, Will is forced to lead a young new staff. While they are enthusiastic about keeping the news honest, Will is struggling to transition from bland network figurehead to finding the true meaning in his work.
Although the show raises some provocative points about modern media, the cast is what really shines. Emily Mortimer is another standout as war-scarred news ace Mackenzie MacHale, Will’s incoming executive producer and ex. Although their past relationship isn’t specified, you can tell there is plenty of pain mixed with their mutual respect.
Also perfect is Sam Waterston as the gentle and knowledgeable president of ACN, Will’s network.
We’re obsessed with the drama!
Will YOU keep watching The Newsroom, HollywoodLifers?

The show is awful. I gave it a fair chance, but it blatantly glorifies narcissistic behavior and is wrapped in a sickening patriotic package. It actually made me feel ill after this past weeks episode. No more.
