Spelling out Dyrk’s name with fire, bodies, and uniforms, Texas firefighters are ‘Dyrk Strong’! The Facebook photo campaign rallies behind the 4-year-old boy diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Four-year-old Dyrk Burcie is getting the support of firefighters across Texas! Check out the video — the story is so touching it makes a fireman cry.
It all started when Dyrk’s father Dameon Burcie‘s fellow Dallas firefighters decided to do something to cheer up the family. Deparments posted photos on the “Dyrk Strong” Facebook album, spelling out Dyrk’s name, with some using uniforms and some setting hay on fire.
Not long after, other departments started to take notice and, to date, nearly 30 photos have been added to the photo album.
“In a horrible situation like this, it’s nice to see that it is bringing people together, bringing communities closer together,” Dameon said in a Huffington Post report. “At least something positive can come out of it.”
According to the report, Dyrk was only 3 when doctors diagnosed him pediatric liver cancer. They later found out the cancer had spread to his lungs. Even after nine rounds of chemotherapy and a liver transplant, nothing worked.
In April, Dameon posted on Facebook that they would stop intensive treatment and make the most of the time Dyrk has left. “We always said we will know when it was time to stop and just enjoy him,” Dameon wrote. “That time has come much earlier than I expected or wanted.”
