'Dallas' Premiere Drew 6.9 Million Viewers — Did You Love The Reboot?

Dallas ruled the ratings when its first aired from 1978 to 1991, and it looks like history is repeating itself, because the June 13 premiere of TNT’s Dallas reboot drew in a whopping 6.9 million viewers. That makes it the year’s No. 1 scripted series premiere! Like the original series, the new Dallas focuses on the Ewings, a wealthy Texan brood with its hand in the local oil and cattle industries — but a lot has changed since we bid farewell to them 22 years ago.

In fact, there’s a whole new generation of troublemakers on the loose, including J.R. (Larry Hagman) and Sue Ellen’s (Linda Gray) son John Ross (Josh Henderson), as well as Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Pam’s adopted son Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe). As you can imagine, the “brothers” spent the two-hour premiere butting heads, as their very different goals — John Ross is guided by greed, while Christopher cares more about the wellbeing of the ranch — pitted them against one another.

But don’t worry if you missed the big premiere, because you can always watch full episodes of Dallas right on TNT’s website!

This was superb…have been waiting for months and it did not disappoint! I already love the new “Dallas” and I have a feeling it’ll be just as captivating as the original. The new series complements the original perfectly too! I also love that they included the original theme song…too many shows now don’t even have one and a memorable theme song is half a show’s identity. “Dallas” is back and bigger than ever…TNT better renew this one for seasons to come!!

I completely agree this was great! I especially love the fact that they didn’t screw up the opening theme song. I watched the original series from day 1… But there’s one thing I can’t remember is what happened between Pam and Bobby… why didn’t they mention Pam on last nights episode?

I think they did a good job in bringing old viewers back and drawing in new viewers. Everyone loves the plot nature against hungry greedy business men. Then throw romance in the middle and see if John Ross may do the right thing in the end…

I was glad because this was a real show. The original cast was a touch of class and the new ones well they are going to be just as good if not better with Larry Hagman and Patric Duffy at the helms. The picture over the southfork mantle is priceless of Jock (Jim Davis) and Ellie Ewing (Barbara Bel Geddes. Linda Gray looks good. I am a true fan I have been watching this show since I was about 3 and this was in 1979.

I was absolutely thrilled by the premiere. It was complicated, but only because of the fact that J.R. and his offspring are so much alike. Not a stretch at all to see many other people looking to get rich off of the Ewings, either. I agree with everyone else about Bobby’s character, though. He MUST stay! He’s the NEW rock, as Barbara Bel Gedes once was. THANK YOU, TNT, for keeping the original theme song and not screwing it all up. Way to go!!!! I will not miss an episode!

I started watching watching the old “Dallas” when I was about 12 years old, and loved it until it drew to a close in 1992. Now I am 44 years old, and I was glued to the TV set last night watching the new “Dallas”. I actually got teary-eyed when the fantastic musical theme kicked off at the start of the show, and it felt like I went back in time in a flash, The show looks great, and so do the actors. I’ll always love Larry Hagman, whom I have been watching since his Major Nelson days when I was a little boy. Can’t thank TNT enough for bringing this awesome classic back, and I will definitely watch every week!

Fabulous!!! I’ve never missed an episode and never intend to. The cast is great and JR is better than ever! Love them all. The young people have big shoes to fill and I hope they pull it off. The opening using the original music and the shots of Dallas gave me goosebumps. I was jumping up and down with excitement! Wish Victoria Principal would miraculously return too. Can’t wait till next week!

I loved it! I was hooked on Dallas in its’ first run, and last nights’ episodes told me that I still am. I heard Linda Gray is 71 years old. She looks amazing! And Larry Hagman … what’s not to love. He’s been a favorite of mine since “I Dream of Jeannie”. And Patrick Duffy … you are still dashing!

In this world of reality television and its’ kazillions of fans, I truly hope Dallas is going to be able to hold a place as a nighttime soap. The new kids (John Ross and Christopher) will have their work cut out for them to turn some of those younger fans to a drama series like this one.

OMG what’s not to like!! I absolutely love the Ewings and when I heard the old theme song my heartbeat quickened. I sat spell bound by JR and his son was a chip from the old block. Sue Ellen still looks terrific. But I am praying Bobby doesn’t die. He and his wife make a perfect couple. Please, please let Dallas live on. I am a fan forever.
