A Washington mother has been charged with domestic violence after starving her newborn baby close to death and neglecting her two-year-old daughter who has MRSA and scabies.
Katherine Amanda Mattern of Burien, Washington was mistreating her children so badly that her 7-week-old son Liam Alexander Lee nearly died.
According to a Daily Mail report, doctors at the Children’s Hospital in Seattle were so concerned about the boy that they called child protective services on May 15.
Grossly understating, Katherine, 23, had only told doctors that Liam “looked a little skinny.”
The baby was also suffering from scabies and is now cared for at the hospital and his condition has improved.
Her two-year-old daughter, Abigail Lilly, was not only suffering from scabies but MRSA as well.
The mother — who is married to a registered child sex offender — was arrested on June 5 with criminal mistreatment to the second degree for domestic violence against her son. She was not charged for her daughter’s abuse but that case is currently under review.
If convicted, Katherine could face five years in jail.

I find this article very sad. Mothers are thought to protect their children at all costs. but, not all mothers are cut from the same maternal cloth. This mother looks like she used plenty of food for comfort, but for some reason felt her children needed none whether for comfort or survival. Since she put her children in further danger by living with a registered sex offender, it is obvious that this women does not have the skills, power, or control to provide a safe, healthy environment for her children.
