Are you on Team LuAnn or Team Ramona? Battle lines were drawn on the fifth season premiere!
The fifth and highly anticipated season of The Real Housewives of New York City premiered June 4, and while it continued to follow Bravo’s winning formula — throwing a bunch of dramatic housewives together and juicing them up on alcohol to see what happens — fans were greeted with a dramatic cast overhaul! But thankfully, no matter who is involved, the drama never ceases to amaze!
While the news of Jill Zarin, Alex McCord, and Kelly Bensimon’s exits came as a shock last season, the fresh faces of season 5 give the aging series a major and much-needed overhaul! They always say that the scariest changes in life end up being the most rewarding! And in that case, as proven by tonight’s episode, bravo, Bravo!
Heather Thomson, Carole Radziwill, and Aviva Drescher introduced themselves to the cast and audience during a party held at Sonja Morgan’s! What better way to kick off the season, especially considering the fact that LuAnn de Lesseps and Ramona Singer immediately threw down in a back and forth banter resulting from a comment made last season! Alcohol always livens a party! LuAnn is still not happy with Ramona attacking her parenting skills — or lack thereof! But come on ladies! That was so least season!
Never fear! Ramona is not a fan of newbie Heather as both ladies partook in an endless series of competitive remarks for the entire 42-minutes of live action! Both housewives, who are very similar as Ramona pointed out considering they both have husbands and kids (yeah and?), couldn’t ever let the other one have the upper hand! Heather’s son was born with his liver on the outside, so Ramona felt the need to admit that her daughter was born with a cord around her neck – and almost died! Upstaging is never attractive, Ramona!
Ramona eventually got her frustration out towards the end of the episode when she bluntly called Heather out on her inability to let other people talk. Meow!
LuAnn seems to be on her own mission — project take down Ramona — as she conducts a “hit and run” at lunch with the newbies. LuAnn drops in to give a detailed play-by-play of a recent voicemail left by Ramona that the Countess can only describe as “blackmail.” And no longer than she finishes her sentence, is she already rushing away to meet someone else! Well played, LuAnn, well played!
Aside from the deep, and sometimes convoluted, drama, there was a dose of comedy from the personalities of Heather, Carole, and Aviva that felt like a breath of fresh air! But nothing could top the moment Aviva took off her prosthetic leg in the nail salon, as she carried a spare in what Sonja called a “gun bag.”
The preview for the upcoming season looks chock full of drama, and I can’t help but look forward to all that’s set to come — legs or not!
