Rihanna totally shocked the world when she musically teamed up with her ex Chris Brown for his “Turn Up the Lights” remix.
And a lot of people speculated that their musical reunion was part of a romantic one — which irked fans because of their their violent past together. But Rihanna reveals in a new interview with Esquire magazine that she was shocked when people thought their collaboration was a “bad thing.”
“I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together, but I didn’t see how people could think it was a bad thing, you know?” she tells the mag. “In my mind, it was just music.”
Hmm! Was it really “just music,” Rihanna?
She went on to say that despite her wild ways, she hopes to settle down with one man in five years.
“Hopefully I’ll have a man by then. I’ve gotta start there, right? But how far I go [with my career] is God’s plan. I’m just following through my destiny. I don’t think it ever ends. It just evolves,” she says.
We’re happy to hear Rihanna sounds like she’s in a good place right now!

Yes HL, it was just music. It’s people like you and other idiots in the media that try to make it seem like it’s more than what it is. Rihanna and Chris wanted to unite their fans and prove to the world that they’re over each other and not defined by that altercation. They created to banging remixes and that shut the haters up and pleased the fans. That’s how powerful music can be and that’s all it is.
