Jessica Sanchez: The Real Reason I Lost 'American Idol'

Jessica revealed the real reason she placed second in ‘American Idol’! Do YOU agree with her? Read on for more details.

If it weren’t for the American Idol judges, Jessica Sanchez may not have even made it to the final round.

And while it was obviously a blessing for the 16-year-old, she also thinks it could have been what kept her from placing first.

In an interview on Live! With Kelly on May 29, Jessica revealed why when the judges saved her in the final three actually harmed her.

“It was a good thing and a bad thing,” Jessica said. “It was a good thing because I really took in the moment and was like ‘I’m here,’ they think I deserve to be here, but then I thought about it way too much and I tried too hard.”

But despite what the final outcome was, Jessica said she wouldn’t have changed a thing.

“I don’t regret anything,” she said. “I made it to the final two.”

We’re sure this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing about Jessica!

Even tho the skewed voting system in AI makes the results dubious at best, it doesn’t matter. For all Jessica fans know that she has been seen and heard and has nowhere to go but up!!!! I for one am looking forward to whatever album she relweases to show what she says is really her type of music. I know she will do an amazing job. You go grt rm Jessica!!!

The article was maliciously written. It makes it appear that Jessica is blaming the judges for saving her. She was simply stating her reaction to the save. Nothing more. She said it pushed her to try harder, but thinks she overdid it. But this writer would like to make Jessica appear ungrateful. I say its her kind that made Jessica lose. And continue losing. This kind of slanted writing is not proper journalism. Raconteur-ism is more like it.

My husband and I and many of our friends in NZ were all impressed with Jessica’s talent. The girl really knew how to sing! Not looking forward to watch AI in the years to come. It is getting from bad to worse.

excuse me, but jessica is “purely american.” she was born and raised here… if you mean to say that american idol only wants white people to win, that’s entirely different. who do you mean by “american idol”? the voters or producers? b/c i’m pretty sure the producers don’t give a lick about nationality as long as they get cuts of record sales after the fact. seasons 2, 3 and 6 were not “white” winners- and i’m pretty sure they’d have been happy enough for jennifer hudson to have taken her season, too. you should write a little more precisely. it might make you actually consider the ridiculousness of your statements.

Jessica’s last song, Change Nothing, did not appeal to the judges. But, after buying the song and listen to it again, it is quite good.

Whenever Phillips sing, he has this awkward look in his face and somehow you could tell that he is struggling.

Anyway, America voted and Phillip won. Let’s respect that.

jessica should have won! she has the whole package – beautiful voice, exotic looks, charm, youth and good fashion sense. philip’s voice is so boring! there are a lot of male singers out there with the same singing style as he has and look where they are now! i’m sure philip will just fade away just like the rest. america got it wrong again!

i’m glad she didn’t win–can you imagine having to sing that awful single again and again? she got the exposure shee needed, got to duet with a legendary Broadway icon…..American Idol used Jessica to boost ratings but wanted Philip to win so as not to disappoint bulk of its audience—young white girls—sadly -it’s not about talent, no matter what they say…..

i don’t understand why everyone always acts like it’s a big secret that it’s not about talent… it never was, not from day one. it’s all about fans- who like you or don’t not merely b/c of your skill. the show is not about the show, it’s about the ad sales that they can get by saying they have x-number of voters, and about the albums their alums can sell (b/c they get a cut of those). they don’t care who is the “best” singer, they only care who people like and will buy. they haven’t figured out the best way to do this yet- and end up with winners who can’t sell big numbers… but, it is and has been the point always, to merely hold a popularity contest.

I agree, Jessica’s getting the boot and the spectacular save appears too contrived. American Idol needed something short of earthshaking to lift the show from the doldrums. It did succeed, they scored big points among the audiences, but pushed Jessica into making mistakes and she lost. The poor 16-yr-old couldn’t have seen it coming – SHE WAS USED, INDEED!

she lost b/c she picked bad songs that she thought were safe and more mainstream- instead of just being herself. but, she had jimmy and the judges (mostly) always telling her people weren’t accepting her as a mature performer and telling her to tone it down… so… she did. it doesn’t matter. she will be a star anyway.

She was forded to pick songs but from a roster of songs and did it within a day while Phillip was given a cover song not necessarily original he admitted it as Lovine handed the song to him directly and Jessicas song was not adjusted accordinly that is why Lovine admitted it bombed. Everyone knows tht to choose a song will take months or even a year to perfect it and it is not a moment thing if you want a blockbuster so top picking on teh 16 year old know the facts first ok????

she admitted herself that she toned down her final performance and de-urbanized it b/c she was trying to broaden her vote base. she didn’t want to take the risk that voters wouldn’t get a more urban/edgy performance. you should check your facts, and also calm down. i am a jessica fan, so the very idea that i am “picking on” her is ridiculous. the difference between you and me is that i know she will be a star regardless of this stupid competition that was beneath her- but you apparently have a chip on your shoulder and are flailing around speaking unintelligible nonsense. yes, the roster of songs sucks and has all been overdone by this point. and, yes, the “experts” picked bad songs for her. but, you know what- she still could’ve urban-ed them up and made them more than they were, a la adam lambert. in any case, it doesn’t matter- b/c despite her immature fans talking nonsense and annoying the adults who enjoy her, she will be a star and those adults will still buy her work.

first of all, Jessica did not answer the question on why she didn’t win. Second, those who are saying that Jessica can’t sing, you’re lame! I’m not going to say something about Phillip’s singing. I’ll let the world speak when people hear him on the radio where looks doesn’t matter. Jessica, while she wasn’t favored by the voters, is going to soar whether you like her or not.

It was rigged even from the start. The producers knew exactly what they were doing. I find it very strange that jessica never was in the bottom 3 until the day she almost got voted off. Until then, she was the top vote getter…What’s wrong with this picture folks…Jimmy lovine gave jessica all the hard songs knowing perfectly well that she would get harsh criticisim from the judges which in turn made america think she didnt deliver. Its pretty evident that jessica can sing “The phone Book”, and even though she was robbed of the coveted AI reward, i believe her name will be spoken in living rooms across the world for years to come.

Honestly, I thought the same thing. Funny, I never watched this crappy American Idol show until one time flip my channel and saw this young young singing a Jazmine Sullivan song. My my, she was gorgeous and sang the song flawlessly. First time at the age of 41, I voted once not million times or 50 times on fb like other people did. Ididn’t know the rules then. So, just started watching this crappy show just for one thing, see what this young girl would sing and get to see the past episodes of the show that I didn’t get to watch. Oh my my… this girl can really sing…She didn’t win, I voted for the last night performances but didn’t watch the results because from reading all the blog about the crappy show, Philip is going to win. I watched my dvr the next day and watched the most epic duet with Jennifer Holliday. I loved watching broadways, so for those people who never seen any braodway show, one must have a powerful voice to perform on the live stage. She is just amazing. Maybe, this season was going to be my first and last to watch that crappy show.

I totally agree with you true blue 59, she was put in the bottom three console was Joshua so the judges would be forced to use their safe you are exactly right,They needed Jessica wrote that because of where you tube followers and her twitter followers you are exactly right she can sing the book they clearly used her Jimmy gives her a song that she clearly cannot saying like she normally does but she made the best of it and Jimmy hands Philip the winning song and gave him an entourage of backup singers and bands to make him look completely good also to cover up his mistakes and poor Jessica was standing out there by herself with the song she never should have song, great example look at the grand finale finals when she song with Jennifer Holliday that was a home run is already over 2 million hits on YouTube, and Philip Philip is only around 80 to 90,000 so you can do the math they need to change this voting system these little girls and cougars vote for him look what Jessica Ansari done since she’s been off she is already sung the national anthem she’d been on several talk shows her success for all or wound the audience by far, and yes Philips sold the most single hits by homey but if you take away the man in the backup singers that would’ve never happened best-loved to my beautiful Jessica and wish you all the success in the world you are America’s and the world Idol we all know it the producers clearly switched the results so another white boy can win the bad thing about it I am white but I don’t like the way the shows of run it’s not for talent it’s strictly a popularity contest the same thing with dancing with the stars Donald driver should have never won but because he’s an American they could not give that title to a foreign person he never scored a perfect 30 the whole season until the end God bless Jessica

First of all, I can bet you that Jessica wasn’t voted off in the first place. That was a scam for ratings, and Jessica became the sacrificial lamb for the show. After the so called safe, Jessica became the step child, with no standing ovation, given the hardest song to sing, and their critique was never about her voice. It’s about her clothes, her dancing or some other artificial thing. Phillip could sing out of tune, didn’t bother with melody and he was the greatest thing since slice bread. Something really smell, and it ain’t pretty.

I totally agree with you. The change in the judges reactions and comments on Jessica’s performances were so different from the previous weeks. And their reaction to Philip’s coronation song was so dubious and fake that even a retard would know what it was all about.
Talking about Jimmy iovine – he is a real a**h***. and what a hypocrite – pretending to apologize for his song choices for Jessica and Joshua.
But these people can do it because they know they can get away with it. One can prevent them from rigging the contest – they have done done it before – Clay and Adam for sure. These people will just say – sour grapes – to those who complain. But in the end it will all backfire on them.

I think that the judges were point on about Phillip. The favoritism was more for Joshua. Sure Josh has some great moments, but they got carried away with the standing ovations. I’m a Jessica fan and think she got more of the short end of the stick than other contestants. That constant “You need to connect” advice was running a bit thin. The girl is doing something right to have millions of views for her videos.
For crying out loud, she sang 3 songs for the Memorial Day concert, well she was scheduled to sing 3 songs befor the storm came.

The judges sabotaged Jessica, along with Jimmy Lovine who choose the worst songs for her to sing. The show is rigged, and the judges are scripted. Jimmy Lovine is the hatchet guy, who sabotaged all the contestant that the Producers doesn’t want. Even with all the hard songs that is give for Jessica to sing, she sang it and Phillip got all the easy songs, that fit his own style. I’m done with AI, for for eyes are open for sure now.

I think this is true, they gave her the worst songs to sing to even things out. I do believe she has the most talent and that it will show in the years to come. I think so, too, Jane. Jimmy even admitted that he chose the wrong song for Joshua to sing when he chose No More Drama by Mary J. Blige. It looked like Jennifer Lopez wanting celebrate when Phillip made it into the top 2 and Joshua didn’t. What crap. I’m done with that show, too. I agree that both are talented. But what is alarming is that AI downgraded Jessica during the last two weeks. If AI did not obviously favor Philip then there will be no harsh reactions from Philip winning it. AI will continue to lose viewership because of what they have done. AI will be done soon.

You are 200% correct Joyce. I am glad someone here is knows the truth about AI contest. I am the biggest fan of Jessica. I was mad when she did not win. However, in the USA, there are 72.4% WHITE population, 12.6% BLACK and only 4.8% Asian. The total population in USA in 2011 is 311,591,917. In other words there are only 2.4 million Filipinos in America out of that 311,591,917 . How many millions of teenyboppers are there? 24% of this population is between the age of 6 and 18. Do the math. People should stop blaming the judges. If they had the last word, they would have voted for Jessica. They wanted her to win but this is a popularity contest more than a talent contest. Yes they are both talented and unique artists. But in AI, the teenyboppers control who wins the title. So stop blaming the judges, Jimmy, etc. What AI needs to do is to change the voting rules. The judges should have the final and last say based on talent – just like the judges in Dancing With the Stars. I believe Randy, J-Lo and Steven would have voted for Jessica. Hands down! But the most important thing here is Jessica is happy with the result. Let’s all respect that and stop creating drama that she was robbed of the title, etc,etc. Let’s all move on because God has bigger plans for her. She will be a phenomenal star like no other!
