Jessica Sanchez: The Real Reason I Lost 'American Idol'

Jessica revealed the real reason she placed second in ‘American Idol’! Do YOU agree with her? Read on for more details.

If it weren’t for the American Idol judges, Jessica Sanchez may not have even made it to the final round.

And while it was obviously a blessing for the 16-year-old, she also thinks it could have been what kept her from placing first.

In an interview on Live! With Kelly on May 29, Jessica revealed why when the judges saved her in the final three actually harmed her.

“It was a good thing and a bad thing,” Jessica said. “It was a good thing because I really took in the moment and was like ‘I’m here,’ they think I deserve to be here, but then I thought about it way too much and I tried too hard.”

But despite what the final outcome was, Jessica said she wouldn’t have changed a thing.

“I don’t regret anything,” she said. “I made it to the final two.”

We’re sure this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing about Jessica!

All the talent in the world doesn’t supercede experience and uniqueness. Jessica is awesome but young which is why the save flustered her so much. I still think Phillip would have one (and glad he did). She will be awesome once she has more experience and let’s herself go. The tour will help to season this talented young lady into a star.

What a bunch of cry babies! Before the Finale, JS fans kept talking about how she WAS the next Idol and how she was going to win it all. Then she doesn’t win and alll of a sudden winning AI is not important, it doesn’t mean anything…
Jessica is an extremely talented singer for any age, but the fact that after years of training and performing she was not able to take the prize says alot about her.
She’ll record a few songs then crash and burn. ALL of the previous Idol contestants who have been successfull have had personality and charisma which she lacks.
Hope you gets some really powerful ballads.

its not always personality and charisma, look at the other winners who did have that. but people lost interest bec they did not deliver the real thing, their voice accdg to the people’s taste. Just like J Hudson who didi not have that charismaa or personality youre talking about. But later she proved it can be developed. REAL TALENT IS WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING, WITH STAYING POWER. i can see that in JSanchez…hope she’ll get there….

I believe Jessica is not lacking in personality at all. The main reason she did not win is due to a tendency for American Idol fans to vote for a white guy with a guitar over an extremely talented singer.

AI is no longer credible, the producers have to exert efforts to correct lapses in its voting process,make it fair for all races allowed to audition, or else it will begin to decompose…

i dont buy that reason conveyed by JS, this is my theory about that, maybe the producers of AI told her to say that just to save their faces of what happened. Everybody knows JS did not pushed herself too much. Just right, everything she did was just perfect. The fact she reached top 2 proves she did everything right after being saved.(which of course was done just to keep people interested in the show) Poor girl, but you’ll have the last laugh for sure!

I agree that when Jessica Sanchez was voted out early on and saved by the judges was just a show by the management and wasn’t really voted out. They just extended the show for one day and gained better ratings.

It didn’t shock me when Phillip Phillips won. I had a feeling he was gonna win. But I still had hope Jessica Sanchez would win. She has an amazing voice! Such great talent.. Phillip has talent too. I wanted Jessica to break the WGWG thing. But sadly it didn’t happen. I was a fan of Jessica since day 1 .. When she was eliminated but then saved by the judges it pushed me even more to vote. And I think that was American idols purpose. As you can tell Jessica has the most support by her fans. She has the most twitter followers, most of her YouTube videos are more than 1 million, and she has the most likes on Facebook on her fan page. Jessica has so much support from celebrities, talkshow hosts, etc.. Even they expected her to win. But for me Jessica was robbed ever since. American idol put her on the top 2 because they know how much support she gets. If Jessica wasn’t in the top 2 rating would drop even more. And views would drop huge. When joshua was eliminated ratings weren’t drop much and views were still ok. Im Not saying that Joshua didn’t have so much support.. Its just compared to Jessica’s and Phillip’s support his is the least. For me the top 2 should’ve been Jessica and Joshua. They are both talented artists. When they announced Phillip made it to top 2 i had a feeling a WGWG would win. I never really payed attention to Phillip until top 3.

Ive noticed that Jessica fans are saying people who vote for Phillip are just horny little girls or people who want a white person to win. But Phillip fans say people only voted for Jessica because of her nationality half Filipino half Mexican. My reason for voting for Jessica is that she has an amazing voice I’m not voting for her because she is half Asian and so am I.

American idol was a popularity contest ever since… There are articles saying Jessica didn’t win because of her nationality. There is a possibility that true. But if you’re a Jessica fan. Even if she didn’t win just support her buy her album Don’t hate on Phillip… I’m positive Jessica will have a huge successful career ahead of her. And as for Phillip fans just show your support for him. Don’t hate on Jessica fans as well. Phillip will get a record deal and who knows it might be a huge hit.

Agree! IT’S GONNA BE QUITE A VERY HIGH STANDARD TO MATCH.
PEOPLE WILL NOW EXPECT A LOT OF “MOMENT MOMENT” BCosz of what Jessica set in season 11. Hopefully there would be auditioners like JS so Season 12 would be exciting. But like Ross said,JS is like a lightning strike, a chance of once or twice only in a lifetime. Aren’t we soooo lucky!

People who label Jessica’s talent as generic gave the word a New Meaning. Why is real winner not always American Idol winner, Believe Jessica said it herself, no one thought she was talented altho every week she sang, range, artists few have ever touched I thought were artists. Jessica go on make it big while some winners be One Hit wonders. Look back and see top finalists real winner. Will be waiting for their album purchase, records period. Jessica Sanchez awesome, unbelieveable, yet to see that talent on American Idol, Jessica real winner.

It’s nice that Phillip won, but seriously there are lots of singer-
song writers like him. Jessica on the other hand is a little
like a lightning strike. A voice like this happens only once or twice in a lifetime. I hope the people who will be managing her

Seriously? We’re still on this? Honestly, I’m happy that Phillip won. We need more male singers like him in the music industry today. But is he going to have a successful career? I’m not sure he will, but if he does, I wish him all the best. As for Jessica, she can sing but her voice is so generic. People are saying she is going to have a successful career, just because of her voice. Okay, but didn’t they say the exact same thing about Pia Toscano, another great singer, who was eliminated in the top four I believe last year? Oh and another thing. Why is everyone bringing up the race card? It really had nothing to do with race. Yes, AI is starting to become a popularity contest, but isn’t that how the music industry works when award shows come on? The reason why AI is becoming boring is because the public have gotten bored with it. 11 seasons? Seriously? Just end it now. The only reason why I compared Jessica and Pia is because people spoke very highly of them, including the judges. I’m only speaking my mind and being realistic here. I could care less of the votes.I never said I was God and who am I trying to impress if I’m speaking my mind? I’m not trying to impress anyone. Jessica could have a hit here and there, but if I’m being honest right now, I don’t think people are going to remember her. The same thing goes for Phillip. Pia Toscano got eliminated on Top 9 not Top 4. She got an album even though she finished 9th only! Jessica a generic? Talk about racism, you just don’t like her voice even if she sounds so much like Whitney Houston! Even Whitney’s daughter can’t sing like her mom fyi. I believe Philip can just sell 1 album, just like the other idol AI WGWG winners and then he’ll be dropped from the AI label coz he is the Generic! I am so sick of hearing that it’s all about race or a popularity contest with nothing but teenagers voting. I’m not a teenager and my husband and I both voted for Phillip. He’s a great artist and he does have a very good voice. He’s just a different kind of singer from Jessica. If it were about pure vocal talent alone, Joshua would have won. I think Phillip was the perfect person to win AI because he’s so humble and down to earth, and yes talented. He doesn’t care about becoming famous, he just wants to make music. The world needs more people like him. And if you want to talk about voices, Steven Tyler does not have a great voice and look how big Aerosmith is. Jessica and Joshua could have wiped the floor with Jennifer Lopez, but look how big she is. It’s not all about the voice people! Get over it!!

Jessica lost because her singing just isn’t that good I have seen her on another competing show, where was the uproar then. when she lost, I tuned in one night heard Phillip sing and that jessica person he was way better. I bet she’s a better singer than you and all of us.If Philip is a good singer, you should have seen the grim faces of all the media who attended the coronation night when PP won. Jessica believes that she lost because she tried to hard. that is her mind, and not the mind of 1,000,000 others. it is simply because teenage girls sit over the phone for hours voting for philip or a cute guy. her loss was not her fault. if she was a WGWG, she would probably win AL. i love american idol, but the voting on american idol is totaly screwed up. i think america should have the chance to vote, and then the judges should make the final decision. in the finale the judges should say their decision, and let that be it. philip has loads of talent, and waay more than Scotty Macreery and Lee Dwize put together. the thing is… AL is going to turn into a total disaster if a girl does not win in a couple of years. Joshua, Jessica and Philip are all Very Talented Artists.

The mechanics of AI in selecting the winner only partially considers Talent. The fact that the judges( the Fans- non expert Judges) who select the winner makes AI a Popularity Contest rather than a Talent Contest. The so-called Judges ( Jlo,Randy and Steven) just give their comments.

So there will always be doubt whether the AI winner, whoever may be, is the most talented one. So I think AI Producers should present the show as a Popularity Contest to set things straight.

i think they have always presented it that way. but somehow people keep getting stuck on this notion that it’s a singing competition… even randy, i suppose, has been stuck on this. it was never a “best singer” contest. ever. the singing just gets you through the door, and the rest is x-factor… britney spears- not a great singer… but an absolutely insanely popular figure- an idol. an idol is a worshipped figure- not worshipped b/c of deserving it. please, everyone, look up “idol”… well, excuse me, let me do it for you: “a. Once again, America embarrased herself by not being able to get a grasp on the “Best Singer” concept. At least Jessica’s and Joshua’s fans understood what AI was looking for. I thing that if this year’s competition would have taken place in another country, an actual singer would have won. Phillip is a trmendous artist and will do well, but come on! What was not mentioned is that he works for his father’s pawn shop. That would have made a difference! I am a fan of Jessica and Philip. However, I voted for talent and it went to Jessica. I was mad when she did not win. However, the USA population in 2011 census is 311,591,917. There are 72.4% WHITE, 12.6% BLACK and only 4.8% Asian. In other words there are only 2.4 million Filipinos in America out of that 311,591,917 . And not all of these Filipinos voted or can vote for Jessica. How many millions of little girls or teenyboppers are there? 24% of this 311,591,917 population is between the age of 6 and 18. Do the math. Everyone should stop blaming the judges. If they had the last word, I believe they would have voted for Jessica. They wanted her to win but this is a popularity contest more than a talent contest. Yes they are both talented and unique artists. But in AI, the teenyboppers control who wins the title American Idol. We need to stop blaming the judges, Jimmy, etc. What AI needs to do is to change the voting rules. The judges should have the final and last say based on talent – just like the judges in Dancing With the Stars. I believe Randy, J-Lo and Steven would have voted for Jessica. Hands down! But the most important thing here is Jessica is happy with the result. Let’s all respect that and stop creating drama that she was robbed of the title, etc,etc. Let’s all move on because God has bigger plans for her. She will be a phenomenal star like no other!

i can’t for the life of me comprehend all of you people who think these race figures mean ANYTHING, if they’re even accurate. while i do believe that race-similarity can equate to a relatability that results in SOME votes, in some circumstances- it is of course not a one to one proposition. not to mention that you’ve thrown all asians together as if there is some sort of solidarity there when there are a lot of different asian groups, some of which are known to be very anti-other asians… same with latin groups, though you seem to have overlooked jessica’s 1/2 latin heritage. in any case… i will agree that she is a phenomenal singer who we will be hearing for quite some time. all the rest of this stuff is actually garbage and creating the very drama you purport to be condemning!
