A 3-year-old boy from Ohio dies after shooting himself in the head with a handgun that was found on top of his TV. This horrific accident is a clear example of why guns should not be left lying around the home!
Little Lucas Heagren, 3, reportedly found the gun in his home and shot himself above the left eye on the evening of May 28. The Mount Vernon native was immediately flown to Knox Community Hospital but died the next day.
Details are unclear as to what exactly happened, but according to a report from the Daily Mail, Lucas’ mother Kaitlin Campbell called 911 and said the gun was sitting on top of the TV “where he usually can’t reach it.” It is believed that the victim pulled the trigger of the handgun.
The report says the boy’s grandfather, mother, father, and two younger siblings were home at the time of the incident and are distraught.
Knox County Sheriff’s Office Capt. David Shaffer described the incident as an “unfortunate accident,” according to a report from 10TV.com
