Amber Portwood 'Needs Help,' Says Expert

Amber Portwood Drugs Rehab

In a shocking move (even for her), Amber Portwood denied drug treatment and chose five years behind bars instead. An expert tells HollywoodLife.com what it will take for the troubled ‘Teen Mom’ star to turn her life around.

We’re still baffled by Amber Portwood‘s decision to rot behind bars instead of undergoing drug treatment for her addiction issues. However, an expert explains the worst is still yet to come for the former Teen Mom star.

“In my opinion Amber is an addict and has not hit rock bottom yet,” New York Times Best-Selling Author and Certified Law of Attraction coach Christy Whitman tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “Obviously going back to jail, which most people would consider is rock bottom, is not the bottom for her.”

She adds, “Even being without her child is not motivating her to stay clean. She needs help, but like with most addicts, she can’t be helped until she wants to be. She has a history of trying to commit suicide as well.”

Whitman also says postpartum depression most likely isn’t playing a role in Amber’s downward spiral.

“Her daughter is four years old and typically the hormones that cause post partum are gone by now,” she explains. “I personally think she just has issues of addiction that stems from low self esteem. Then she is in the spot light with access to a lot of money that will allow her to buy drugs. It is a dangerous combination that we see a lot of times in Hollywood.”

Do you think Amber will ever learn her lesson, or will she succumb to her addictions forever?

I do agree with all of the concepts you have introduced for your post. They’re really convincing and will certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are too quick for newbies. Could you please prolong them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.

Such a hard situation. She really does need help not only for Leah but for herself too. People can judge all they like & but until they know what shes going through they really have no right to say a thing! I really hope she works through her issues & does better in the future. She really could have such a good life & break the cycle!

I have to agree that Amber had not hit bottom, but has rather taken the easy way out. She doesn’t have to work at cleaning up her act in prison, she doesn’t have to try to do anything to help herself. I don’t think the system failed her.

I do think MTV failed her and the rest of these girls that are constantly in trouble. They have taken these young uneducated girls and have thrown the into a life they were ill prepared for and from all the articles about them and their drama I have yet to see MTV come to their aid. If MTV is hell bent on continuing Teen Mom they need to put some consequences in place for these girls such as firing them, not exploit them .

They real victim here is her child. This drama will influence her entire life and not in positive manner.

She thinks violence is the answer. Let’s see if she get’s what she wants with violence in the Pen. They’ll be showing her a point or two (black eyes that is). Why this moron had a kid is beyond me. She is not Mother material. Who knows what she does to that poor child when no one is looking. She thinks even now that she’s winning, the fool. She’ll be crying and begging to get out after a week. Sorry, you do the crime you do the time ignorant lowlife!!

I think her drug of choice(s) of choice are prescription medications, mainly benzos and opiates. I feel for Amber, but I really cannot wrap my head as to how she can reason in her mind that prison is better than treatment. Sad…
