It wasn’t a smooth journey for Phillip to be crowned the winner of ‘American Idol’! Read on to find out how the rockstar overcame serious pain for his winning performance!
It’s official: Phillip Phillips is this season’s winner of American Idol.
But behind closed doors, Phillip was struggling with severe pain in his kidney area during the finale.
“It was very tough. Great doctors and people surrounding me; it’s a blessing to have people that help out,” he said.
The Georgia-native will have to undergo surgery before going on tour.
“I’m going to get some surgery done and I will be done before and ready for the tour,” he said.
But don’t be fooled: Phillips tears last night were tears of joy — not pain.
“I will cry some more, it feels good,” he said.
Awe! We are so happy he won! We’re sure he will have an easy surgery and we can’t wait to see him rock the American Idol tour!

I think that Phillip is a fabulous singer and represents a true American Idol. He has a wonderful way about him. I enjoyed his personality and musical talent. I especially enjoyed the performances with Alice. They sound great together. I had no idea he was ill. I am so happy things are going well for him and that he will be well for the concert. My family and I enjoyed him so much. Much good luck to him.
