Jessica may have finished in second place on ‘American Idol,’ but the big-voiced diva is already looking to the future — and her debut album!
HollywoodLife.com chatted with Jessica Sanchez after the May 23 finale of American Idol, and she revealed she wants to be “more like Rihanna,” but also “kind of Beyonce“ as an artist. “I don’t want to compare myself to anybody,” she told us. “I want to be somebody new, too.” With her powerful voice and full-on swagger, she would certainly fit right in in today’s pop music scene. Her R&B roots will serve her well as she moves forward to carve out her own niche of “not straight pop.”
While on the show, Sanchez even drew comparisons to a younger Beyonce and Rihanna in her performance style and vocals. In fact, during Top 9 week, she broke out a lovely, slowed-down version of B’s “Sweet Dreams” (a highlight of the season). Unfortunately, Jessica also told us she didn’t get to speak with RiRi — who took the Idol stage last night with “Where Have You Been” — but she did say she was “freaking out” over the star’s appearance.
With an intense press tour beginning today, Jessica hasn’t had a chance to wake up from her new life. She’ll soon begin a grueling rehearsal schedule for the American Idol Live! Tour, which kicks off July 6 in Detroit. Needless to say, the career-hungry starlet doesn’t plan on slowing down as far as her debut album is concerned either.
“We’re going to try to work on hopefully my future album,” she gushes. “We’re going to try to really get on top of stuff.”
Well, her fans absolutely can’t wait for that!
What do you Hollywoodlifers think? Is Jessica the next Beyonce or Rihanna?

even other great singers had idols who contributed much in attaining their own style, that’s what jessica is pointing out. whitney had chaka khan plus others who influenced her. that’s a very simple point. just wait and see, early to say jessica would just imitate someone else… cool down people.

i hope Jessica is going to become more like beyonce, because even though she didn’t sound bad while she was performing on ‘IDOL,’ i think jessica would sound the opposite of great if her music style and choice is like Rhianna. she is like a little beyonce at the moment, but she can still develop her voice even more. it’s hard to beleive i know, but Jessica still has stuff to lern. if js starts to do music kind of like beyonce, and not rhianna, i’m telling you, she will be huge even without that contract

It’s OK to idolize someone but my advise to JS is to find her own signature and personality as an artist because those are the ones that really stayed or was remembered in this business. That is her greatest challenge. However, with the death of Whitney, the seat for a female r&b belter and balladeer is vacant ;) and that seems to be one of her strongest points… Good luck JS

I know! whats with these people? they are so harsh on jessica! only proves they are not fans of hers. I read all articles and watch her interviews and she is really sweet and nice kid, its amazing how these bloggers and web columnists make harsh judgements on this girl, its true that her single isnt doing well on itunes coz it really sucks! even jessica didnt like it, but we her fans believe she will make a phenomenal debut album! And we will support her all the way!

Im a big fan of Jessica Sanchez. I feel so sad that she didnt win. :-( im hoping I will hear her sing again. Jessica Sanchez is Jessica Sanchez she doesnt need to idolised or copy another big singer as she is bigger than them cant wait for her new songs to come out. She has amazing voice but the songs that Ai throws at her didn’t work out! What Jessica needs is her own original songs, that’s what ismissing! She is very young and versatile singer, her voice is good but needs good power ballads, r&b songs not a copy cat songs!

i’m scared at the idea of her being like rihanna… but i have to remember that i have always liked rihanna’s voice (just not her trashy behavior). i wasn’t nuts about rihanna’s performance last night- at least, not her part of it. i think jessica’s voice is so standout, i almost hate to have it cluttered up with all the hoopla that comes along with those big performances… then again, i’m not a concert-goer. on stage, i guess you gotta give your audience their money’s worth. in any case, i love jessica and would like her to be on the more bluesy side of r&b. i hope she doesn’t take a pop turn… she’s too good for that bland sh!t.

you don’t need to copy or be like one of the famous stars today you have to be yourself and you will be famous for who you are not being famous because you imitate somebody…
