Kristen Stewart: I 'Wanted' To Go Topless For 'On The Road'

At a Cannes Film Festival press conference for her new film, ‘On The Road’, Kristen Stewart opens up about a certain scene that is sure to cause quite a stir amongst fans. The starlet makes clear the choice to strip down was her own.

Premiering today, May 23, at the Cannes Film Festival, On The Road is the much-anticipated film adaptation of Jack Kerouac‘s 1957 classic novel, starring our girl, Kristen Stewart. Opening up at the press conference, Kristen talked candidly about her unflinching approach to the sex scenes in the film.

When asked about a particular scene sure to set tongues wagging, a scene in which she appears topless, Kristen said, simply, she “wanted to do it.”

The 22-year-old actress went on to explain, “I love pushing myself. I love scaring myself. I’ve always wanted to get as close to an experience as I could.”

Kristen said her immersion into her character, Marylou, and the Beat world occurred over four weeks in Montreal in 2010 at what she’s likened to a “beatnik boot camp” that was held for the cast.

“I’m usually self-conscious about running around town with my face hanging out,” Kristen explained. “But I got to live more in those four weeks than I ever usually do in my life.”
