After an incredible finale between Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, it is clear that one of them rose to the challenge and should become our next American Idol!
The two remaining American Idol finalists – Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez — took on three songs each May 22, one being their favorite song of the competition, one picked by Idol producer Simon Fuller, and one that will be their first post-Idol single. In order to win the American Idol crown, Phillip and Jessica had to deliver the best performances of their lives. So who pulled out all the stops and should be the Season 11 winner?
Round 1:
Jessica sang Whitney Houston‘s “I Have Nothing,” which didn’t come close to being as good as the first time she performed Whitney Houston earlier this season with “I Will Always Love You”. She was clearly nervous, and needs to step it up in the later rounds if she wants to win this thing. It was nowhere near her worst performance but you could obviously see the nerves shine

Phillip sang “Stand By Me” and clearly has more fans for him in the audience which may also mean America, judging from their screaming for his performance. He definitely won this round for me — he was actually singing and having fun. There weren’t any nerves there at all. He came out confidant and really put a great twist to the song.
Winner: Jennifer and Randy pick Jessica (they’re wrong!)
Round 2:
Jessica sang “The Prayer,” which is basically the same old stuff. However, she did much better than her first song because she didn’t overdo it. She didn’t carry on and growl and do her usual Jessica Sanchez routine. This was a nice selection and she didn’t have the nerves from the first performance. This was a good job overall.
Phillip sang “Moving Out” by Billy Joel and the crowd went wild. However, I thought it was blah, at best. He should have had a little more fun, but this actually brought him down a few pegs. Phillip Phillip didn’t have a wow moment here at all.
Winner: Jessica obviously won this round, in my opinion. Steven says Jessica won. Randy says it’s a tie and J. Lo picked Phillip.
Round 3:
Jessica sang what will be her first single, “Change Nothing,” and I think it’s decent, but not great. If Phillip has a good song, he wins. Randy hated the song, Jennifer was not really thrilled about it and Steven agreed it wasn’t good. Even Jessica admitted the song and performance were not her best. Not a good way to end your run on American Idol. This could cause her some major trouble since the first two performances made things tied in my eyes.
Phillip’s song was much better than Jessica’s and the fans were going NUTS for it. It’s very hokey but very Phillip, it was almost like a song you’d hear in the animated movie Cars, but it did the trick. All the judges gave him a standing ovation. Randy loves it, Jennifer loves it and even Steven admits, “I think you are the man.” This was the performance he needed. He was in the right place at the right time.
Ladies and gentleman, I think Phillip Phillips just won American Idol.

i think Jessica should win the AI. or it will be better if they will letPhilip to sing Jessicas song and vice versa and find out who will make the best version…. Obviously, Philip had a good song for him and Jessica had an “okay” song. . . Steven said ” I think this is not a song for you ” so American Idol would be fair if they will let them to sing both songs. . .
