Alanis Morissette: I'm Breastfeeding My 18-Month-Old & I'm Not Stopping

We’ve all seen the explosive ‘Time’ magazine cover of Jamie Lynne Grumet breast feeding her nearly 4-year-old son. Whether or not it’s for you, we now know what side of the fence Alanis is sitting on. The singer plans to nurse until her son is finished!

Some celebrities — ahem Jason Biggs — have taken the Time magazine feature on the “attachment parenting” phenomenon as a joke, while others completely embrace it. Alanis Morissette has admitted that she’ll be breast feeding her 16-month-old son Ever until he’s finished.

“I’m an attachment parent,” the singer told Access Hollywood on May 17. “I breast feed and I’ll be breast feeding until my son is finished and he weans,” the 37-year-old mom explained.

Alanis has a son with rapper husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway.

“I think it affords the child, when he grows up, to have a lot less therapy to go to,” she added. “For me, I protect his safety and his well-being and his attachment. That stage of development is a very important stage.”

Alanis also said to host Billy Bush that she plans to let her son share their bed: “We’re definitely skin-on-skin connected as much as possible.”

Your children can be attached to you without breastfeeding – I have 2 boys who are very well adjusted and they are not lifting up my shirt to get some milk. We give children solid food for a reason so they will be weaned of the bottle ot breast – there is no reason to be breastfeeding after a certain age as they are getting their nourishment from food.

really??i can see someone doing maybe up to around 2 yrs old but 5??cmon now that just looks bad..im sorry just my opinion

Julia. Can you provide the sources that state this? It is simply not true. There is no psychological harm in breastfeeding past 2 years old. Kyra, why is it a problem? Where is the information to back up your opinions? Look up Katherine Dettwyler, Ph.D., Dr. Jack Newman, even the American Academy of Family Physicians, World Health Organization, AAP, see their reserach and recommendations on breastfeeding. Their is no maximum recommended age. There is nothing harmful about “extended” breastfeeding, but there IS many benefits for both child and mother.

Who cares about Alanis, She hasnt been in the spotlight since the mid 90′s!! To be she is a hasbeen. As for the breastfeeding part, I could care less what she decides to do, Its fully a womans choice.

Mandy- the ignorant here it’s you !… she never said that breastfeed it’s bad and woman shouldn’t do that… Learn how to read… also what she’s saying it’s true.. a lot of scientific and physiologic investigations shows that breastfeed when kids are older than 2 years old, it’s bad, that creates a excessive attachment to their mom and make them believe that they’re still babies so they need the attention that babies need, and affects kid when they become older and need to take important decisions, also moms become so overprotective with their kids and never let them go or live their lifes as a grown men or women… you know, 40,50,60 year old men who still live with their parents mom still cooks for them etc etc…

Kyra- that comment is just pain ignorant. There is nothing wrong with a mother breastfeeding her child. Its’s wharf our breast are for. Society has sexualized breast so much we forget the real reason we have tgwm.

Minus the sweater, she’s wearing basically the same outfit as the mom on the cover of time. That’s random.

Breastfeed a 1/2 year old kid, it’s not bad, i know a lot of ppl that does that… But breastfeed a 3,4,5,6,7,8…. etc etc, year old kid it’s bad, that’s a problem.
