Selena’s hunky ‘Spring Breakers’ co-star James Franco reveals why she was perfect for the racy flick, which can pave the way for her to take on more mature movie roles! But does this mean she’s abandoning her Disney fans?
It’s not always easy for Disney stars to take on more mature jobs as they get older, but James Franco thinks nineteen-year-old Selena Gomez‘s scandalous role in the indie movie Spring Breakers could help her do just that!
James — who plays a drug dealer who bails Selena, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson‘s characters out of jail in the film — says Selena was “hungry” for the wild role of Faith.
“I thought [director Harmony Korine] was so smart to cast her, Vanessa and Ashley because it seemed like they were so hungry for some deeper kind of material, hungry for indie material,” James, 34, told Eonline.com on May 12. “They really gave their all when they were acting. You’ve got great performances.”
Wizards of Waverly Place, the Disney show that made Selena a star, aired its series finale back in January. Soon after, Selena flew to St. Petersburg, Fla., where she and ladies got crazy on the set of the movie, which comes out in 2013.
We told you Selena admitted she was “super stressed out” during filming, but her costars said it’s obvious she really loves what she does.

Being part of ‘Spring Breakers’ won’t make Selena lose her fans… it’s going to be a pg-13 movie… and that’s teenage appropriate. For her younger fans maybe aged 12 or something, they are growing up too!

Heck people if you want a role model go talk to your parents, uncle or aunt, grandparents, or pastor. If you want to watch a good movies leave the actors the heck alone. They are acting, doing a movie, it’s not real people. Shut the heck up if you don’t like the part she plays or the movie she is in then don’t watch it. It’s as simple as that stay the heck home or go watch Bambi. The rest of us like her acting and think she should expand her acting style. Being an adult does not mean to make a role as a cheap slut. Singing songs to lick her pussy, peeing in the floor, taking drugs, just being wild. She worked in Barney and Disney and if she didn’t worked in child’s tv show she can do whatever she wants even thou I think you can do better in ur life. Oh grow up and stop being such an uptight prude, Maggie. Selena Gomez is no longer on disney channel and in 2 months she will be 20 YEARS OLD. Also, she is an ACTRESS. There are plenty of actors and actresses who have done things on tv shows and in movie roles that they wouldn’t do in real life. It’s called ACTING. Would you get mad at an actor or actress who played a bully? a thief? a criminal? a murderer? Then you shouldn’t have a problem with this either.

I agree, this movie may be for older fans but that doesn’t mean that she can’t take other roles that would be fine for teens too. She shouldn’t be type cast because of what she’s done in the past and as Blaize pointed out…it’s just ACTING! That means that it’s not real…she’s still a good role model, she’s just taking more challenging, grown up roles! It’s up to parents to stop their children seeing R rated movies but they’ll probably watch it anyway…but they’ll know the rating and know what it contains so they bring it upon themselves. They would have to be extremely naïve and foolish if they think just because of the role that she’s like that in person. Leave her alone and let her make her own choices, some maybe bad and some maybe good. But I honestly can’t wait and I think this movie could only make me support her more!

@maggie do you realize that she’s playing a character on spring breakers and she had to do things that she doesn’t normally do. and the movie you are talking about its called trash humpers another great movie by harmony korine and that movie had some awards. they maybe independent and international awards but awards. plus if you see harmony’s other projects it will change your mind about his work.

Oh golly, your comment was quite complicated to understand there mate, but all in one. I too respect that you “lost” your respect to Selena, I really do, it’s quite sad that you weren’t as strong of a fan or supporter of SG though. A WOMAN, an ACTRESS, she wants to explore her skills and there are 11 million other fans who are too willing to go on this adventure with her. I will have to excuse your little mention on the young lad of a boyfriend Selena has, for which I find that he is complelty irrelevant on this topic. Last time I checked, Selena is the one with way more years in the long run, and she’s been overshadows for quite some time, I’m glad she’s showing the finger & grabbing everyone by the balls with her cunningness & hardwork. Anyways, music was never a top priority for Sel, she was always an actress first but what I liked is that she was explorative & adventurous with her multitasking ways, she didn’t mind doing something she loved, even though others didn’t, she did, with that free spirit, she’s going to go on a long trail and hopefully one day, you too will see and open your mind to what a person can do when they live doing what they do.
