'Smash' Recap: A Shocking 'Death' Puts 'Bombshell' In Danger

Who will step up to the spotlight and save the show? That’s the question on the mind of every viewer — and chorus girl.

I never thought I’d say this, but I think someone has finally surpassed Ellis (Jaime Cepero) in the race for the least likable character on Smash – and that person is Mr. Dev Sundaram (Raza Jaffrey). On the May 6 episode, after waking up in bed with Ivy (Megan Hilty), Dev actually had the nerve to re-propose to Karen (Katharine McPhee). And this time, she wasn’t “in tech,” so she said yes.

Of course, Dev wasn’t the only terrible boyfriend in Boston this week. Derek (Jack Davenport) continued sleeping with Rebecca (Uma Thurman), who suffered a literal (theater) death when no one applauded after the first performance of Bombshell. Apparently the audience wasn’t down with Marilyn’s death, even though — as Julia (Debra Messing) pointed out — Marilyn dies in nearly every re-telling of her life.

Speaking of Julia, reuniting with Michael (Will Chase) was even more awkward and stressful than she imagined it would be — especially with Frank (Brian d’Arcy James) and Leo by her side. And the more Michael tried to get back with Julia, the more she resented Tom (Christian Borle) for allowing the team to ask him back to Bombshell.

And just when you thought things couldn’t get any more out of control, Rebecca was rushed to the hospital after suffering a peanut allergy attack. But even after being released, Miz Duvall decided not to return to Bombshell. But as they say in the biz, the show must go on, which leaves us right back where we started after the pilot:

Who will take over the role of Marilyn just in time to save Bombshell – Karen or Ivy?

So who do you think poisoned Rebecca, and more importantly, who should replace her as Marilyn? Hit up the comments section with your thoughts and theories!

Oh yeah, they definitely knew.

Everything Julia and Dev was terrible. The singing, and Julia and Tom’s fight, was okay. Overall, not a bad episode.

Another departure I’m happy about this week (Jane from Desperate housewives was the first one), I said it before and I’ll say it again, Uma was so wrong for the part, too old and not an ounce of glamour.
Is every straight guy in this show turning into a creep? I’m so certain that this will not be the only time Dev sleeps with Ivy, you can tell by the looks they exchanged every time they met. and what about Michael hitting yet again on Julia, what is wrong with this idiot? didn’t he cause enough problems already?
And I’m pretty sure Karen will end up with the part only because Ivy is the obvious choice, come on, the season finale has to have some surprises.

The one thing I was confused by in this episode was whether or not Dev and Ivy knew who each other were when they went home together. They seemed to know when Karen called in the morning?

I wasn’t sure last week, but when they both said “I won’t tell anyone” at the beginning of this episode, I realized they knew.

Of course they knew. Remember the moment when they said their names when they met by the bar. He knew she was the Ivy Karen told him about, and you could see it in her eyes that she realised he is THE Dev and wanted to do it anyway.
