None of the ‘Breaking Dawn’ stars received individual nominations this year! Could their reign over the MTV Movie Awards really be over?
I think we can all agree that after four blockbuster installments, The Twilight Saga‘s trinity of stars are practically MTV Movie Award staples. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart‘s awkward kiss back in 2010, as well as Rob’s equally awkward (but also kind of hot) kiss with Taylor Lautner in 2011, are the stuff of legends — so why were the Twilight trinity totally snubbed this year?
(Click here for the full list of 2012 MTV Movie Award nominees!)
Breaking Dawn, Part 1 received a dismal two nominations — none of the actors received individual nods, aside from “Best Kiss” — while its big-screen rival The Hunger Games received eight nominations, including individual awards for Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Elizabeth Banks.
We love The Hunger Games, so we don’t disagree with any of its recognition on this list, but we have to say we’re kind of stunned at some of the actors, actresses and movies that MTV ranked higher than Breaking Dawn this year. Channing Tatum over Rob? Emma Stone over Kristen? Both were fine in their respective movies, but given that MTV’s audience is still obsessed with all things Twilight, we’re really surprised they weren’t shown more love.
The Twilight Saga is huge, like epically huge, and Breaking Dawn was its biggest installment yet. Do you think Rob, Kristen and Taylor deserved to be nominated — or is it time for other stars to get their chance to shine? Cast your vote below, then hit up the comments section to talk this thing out.

I don’t think its anything personal against Twilight or the cast at all, I think they’re just being fair this year and spanning the variety of who wins certain awards. Really enjoyed the Hunger Games, so pleased they at least got some nominations. Not to discredit Twilight in any way, because I am somewhat a fan, mainly due to Kristen Stewart. It’s good they gave a break from all the hype and let other contenders get their chance of awards.

Let’s put it this way…
What if this happened to Hunger Games or Harry Potter? It would be just as unfair. Let faithful fans vote! Don’t take it away and set a bad example by changing rules to cheat out Rob, Taylor and Kristen. These were their best perfomances yet… Shenanigans MTV, bad move!

To clarify…
I believe in the past, fans voted for nominees? This year MTV picked them? Which is what I meant above on letting fans vote [for the nominees]. I’ve searched the web to verify how things were done in 2011, and ran out of surfing-time, but if anyone knows for sure…please give full facts…♥

for those people that say Kristen and Rob are horrible actors I want to say: wait and you’ll see. This year they are going to Cannes! haha next years I’m sure they’ll have the oscars and more awards.
I’m sure too that they’re not mad because they only have 2 nominations.
really unfair people all over the world that watch the mtv movie awards can’t vote. it’s obvious they want THG win cause it hasn’t had any success in the rest of the world.
I’m sorry if my english is not good.

go to nextmovie.com. it was posted that the avengers earned more in the international market (outside north america that is) with 178million only on its opening weekend compared to Hunger Games with 200million something which has been running for over a month now. The 1st twilight was not promoted as big as the hunger games and to add that lions gate promised to release breakingdawn part 2 trailer during the opening day of hunger games.

This was theft. How can a 2012 film that is still going to compete to the best of 2011? This was a financial interest. THG just never have more fans than Twilight. So Kristen and Rob did not name. I pity the audience of MTV. Twilight Saga is a loved and is not course like this one that the producer does everything to impose on people. THG was successful in the U.S. but the world was a failure. Is that why I can only vote who is the U.S.?? Is very expensive in the frame. Rob and Kristen do not lose anything, because competing for Palme d’Or at Cannes, are far above that. Who lost was MTV. Had he been honest and said he did not appoint Rob and Kristen to give chances to others would have been more worthy.

MTV MA is a fan based movie awards. Fans vote for their favorites, the best fans always gets their favorites to win. And it doesnt matter if they keep pressing the vote button, even MTV MA encourage them to not let their favorites down by keep voting, it’s their own rule. Then for the last 3 years Twilight dominated the awards, that only hows they have the best fans. And now MTV MA wants more stars on the stage esp with the success of HG, but its unfair to totally snub the Twilight actors to give way to the newcomers. Let all the popular movies be up there and let the fan battle begin. They have HP and HG but not TW? that’s obviously intentional. HP and HG might be a lot better movie than TW but TW actors have more passionate following. Viewers of this show wants a fun night entertainment, if they want an Academy selected nominees they’ll watch the Oscars instead. They changed rules based on their personal interest. Rob and Kristen made the show entertaining for the last 3 years giving MTV MA a higher ratings than previous years, all they can do is give some respect.

OKAY! That’s it! As a Twi-hard it’s time for me to speak out!
I was quite disappointed when I heard the news that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 only got two nominations in MTV Movie Awards! I mean, since 2009 Twilight got 6 or 8 nominations! And the worst part is, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart didn’t nominate in Best Female and Male Performance!
You will regret this, MTV Movie wards!

MTV is hardly a standard setter and measure for quality. Its an award show for fans. Their snub against Twilight is a dismissal of the great fanbase that this franchise has. Which, arguably, is greater than Harry Potter (based on previous years’ voter ratings, if HP was more popular among fans it would have won more). So to allocate only 2 category nominations for Twilight, and 6 for HP, shows that the award show is being petty and unfair. Its an award show for fans, not the Oscars. All nominations must be based on popularity, not some “academy” selection board. This years nominations are not a true reflection of viewers choice. I’m not evening factoring in THG nor think its undeserving of its 8 nominations. THG is very popular.
But...

But previous years were not a true reflection of the fans either. The fact of the matter is that Twilight had fans who were willing to sit and vote continuously. When one person spends all day voting and voting for the same thing over and over again, that isn’t a true reflection of what the fans want. So, MTV changed their voting guidelines and the way the show would be run. Twilight wasn’t winning because it was the best choice, it was winning because the Twi-fans were the most willing to sacrifice their time to vote continuously.

Everyone sat and voted constantly…Harry Potter fans, others…not “just” Twilight. BUT because they have more fans, regardless, the odds are always with Twilight. If HP fans had won because they “stuffed” the box better…I bet it would have been okay then to win “that way” against Twilight. Sounds like double-standards: “Hey, MTV, do what ever you have to to make sure Twilight doesn’t win and someone else does.”
But...
Posted at 4:07 PM on May 2, 2012
And again…yes everyone was voting for who they wanted to win. But I bet you any money that if it had been HP winning for three years straight and then it was someone else’s turn, that the HP fans wouldn’t be all over the internet crying like a bunch of whiny babies because their favorite couple didn’t get nominated. It’s funny how Twilight fans are acting right now. When Twilight is getting all the awards, then MTV popcorn awards are the greatest movie accomplishment ever, but as soon as MTV leaves Twilight out of a few categories, now everyone turns their back on them, and they don’t mean anything. The bottom line is this…IT’S AN MTV MOVIE AWARD. It literally means NOTHING in the entertainment business. One of the producers that worked with Kristen said it best….You never see the words MTV Movie Award Winner or MTV Movie Award Nominee in front of someones name when they are being announced.
