The MTV Awards Dissed 'Breaking Dawn Part I'

Tue, May 1, 2012 5:40pm EDT by 79 Comments
Breaking Dawn MTV

It’s bad enough that the MTV Awards, which will be televised on June 3, didn’t nominate either Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson for Best Female or Male Performance, but they almost gave the cold shoulder entirely to Breaking Dawn Part I.

What is with the MTV Awards? Why have they almost completely ignored one of the biggest blockbusters loved by their audience in the past year?

Breaking Dawn Part I, has grossed $701,989,889 in the past year. That’s NOT small potatoes! And you can bet, that the Breaking Dawn audience is EXACTLY the same audience that will watch the MTV Movie Awards.

So why is Breaking Dawn Part I being slighted with only nominations for Movie of the Year and Best Kiss? Meanwhile The Hunger Games, has nominations for Movie of the Year, Best Male Performance for Josh Hutcherson, Best Female Performance for Jennifer Lawrence, Best Breakthrough Performance for Liam Hemsworth, Best Cast, Best On-Screen Transformation for Elizabeth Banks, Best Fight, and Best Kiss.

Yes, Hunger Games is a terrific film too, and it’s grossed $601 million worldwide so far, but we at Hollywoodlife would argue that the Breaking Dawn cast is as strong as Hunger Games, Robert Pattinson is as worthy as Josh Hutcherson in Hunger Games or Channing Tatum in The Vow. Kristen Stewart embodies Bella Swan, as well as Jennifer Lawrence becomes Katniss in Hunger Games and she was certainly just as, if not more memorable than Emma Stone, as Hannah in Crazy, Stupid, Love – all of whom received nominations.

Finally, Taylor Lautner has really been dissed, with his impressive fight against his fellow werewolves in Breaking Dawn? Why wasn’t he nominated in the Best Fight category?

What the MTV Awards are completely not realizing is the tremendous bond between the Twilight series films and their audience. It is unparalleled by any movie franchise, aside perhaps from Harry Potter ‘s. We could even argue that it’s stronger than the Harry Potter audience bond.

That’s because there is such intense fan interest in the off-screen lives of Twilight stars, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Peter Facineli, Ashley Greene and more. That interest out-bonds the interest in Danielle Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

That deep relationship between the Twilight fans and the films and the cast, counts enormously and the MTV Awards has ignored that critical fact.

Twilighters will NOT be happy about their favorite film being given short shrift! MTV should amend their nominations and add the cast to the Best Cast Category and Rob and Kristen to the Best Male and Female Performances categories!

Do you agree Hollywoodlifers? Tell me now and vote!

at the end of the day twilight won the awards because the fans voted for them . instead of moaning that they won why not vote for who you want then . fairs fairs . instead of doing this which makes it unfair to the fans who pay good money to see films which they want to see. ignore what critics say . i wont be watching it .

They did dissed twilight for not including them to nominate more than two cos they afraid they will win again…some of u here talk big only and don’t want to do something to support ur actor, actress, and movie that u want to win…that’s the big difference to the twilight fan, they are supported, dedicated and willing to vote again and again…and when they won some of u are ready to bash, whinning and complaining why they win this and that???such a hypocrite, loser and bitch u are!!!I will not watch this damn MTV show this year.

This post is true, we love Breaking Dawn and it should be in all the catagories outlined. I’ll not bother to watch the MTV awards ever again if they are such idiots. I agree with Parichaya, Aybrey, Zee and all the others here who believe we should have been given the chance to vote for our fav Twilight. I’m fumming! Grr……

3 years MTV never missed a single category without nominating Twilight, but this year they diss it? MTV should have played it fair & square by nominating all 3 movies (Harry Potter, Breaking Dawn & Hunger Games) equally in all the categories & then letting the fans to vote & decide the winner. But they didn’t. They just rule out Breaking Dawn & it’s cast from other categories so that other movies stand a chance of winning. How pathetic is that?
By excluding Breaking Dawn like this MTV just made other movies look weak in front it.

Why is it still called MTV since there’s no music? There’s a new producer and he wants to put his own stamp on everything so fans and movies be damned.

And weren’t the MTV awards created 20years ago as a fan-based voting system? So by taking away the fans right to nominate who they want to be up for competition and taking away the international vote, does that not show us all how manipulative MTV are being? You MTV have lost your last shred of credibility.

MTV has set up the new nominating rules in a blatant attempt to bend & twist it to their liking: withdrawing the international vote? Why? Because both Twi and HP have done better overseas than HG? HG might have made 601mil internationally but both HP AND TWI have done much much more.
Purposely not nominating R/K in best acting categories but in best movie – why? And most obvious : allowing THG to be nominated when technically it shouldn’t have been allowed to until next year. Its like MTV are saying: Look,THG, we’ve removed all your competition so that you’ll win – what an insult to THG. There is something definitely rotten at MTV and I think its the stink of manipulation.

MTV should’ve given us a choice to who to vote for. Not take it away! If BD don’t win for best movie it should go to HP. Cause they have never won anything. I think Robsten is going to be just fine. They have bigger awards to take home.

It’s not fair why MTV changes the rule for selecting nominees this year they are selected by commitee ,not from people
it’s not oscar award
Rob and kristen maybe don’t want to go MTV kristen avoids to kiss on the stage and this year she isn’t nominated for best actress ,i believe she won’t come MTV this year

I think that MTV did the right thing. It was not that great of a movie. Im not a hater, but the Hunger Games and Harry Potter were way better. Robert Pattinson is a great actor, but not in twilight – same thing for Kristen Stewart. They are both terrific actors, but their roles in twilight are just so .. plain.
They should be happy they got a nomination for Best Movie and Best Kiss.

“We could even argue that it’s stronger than the Harry Potter audience bond.”
Why would you guys say that? Don’t compare twilight with Harry Potter. The twilight fanbase is mostly teenage girls, and it hasn’t been around for that long. People grew up with Harry Potter, and it has been around for way longer than twilight. Not only teenage girls, but also kids and adults can read it. My aunt read the Harry Potter books to my (little) nephew, but I don’t see her reading a twilight book to him..
I have Harry Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games sitting on my bookshelf, so I like them all equally. People need to stop comparing.

HP fans and HG fans are really rude to us just because we do a better job in supporting what we like well DEAL WITH IT AND MOVE OVER! The only reason MTV didn’t nominate Twilight its cause they new we where going to win all of them cause we love this Saga and never stop supporting it! No I wont diss anyone as IM ACTUALLY A GROWN UP PERSON and I don’t care to know nothing about some actors or movie I don’t particularly like- I JUST IGNORE THEM and you might care to do the same. BUT OF COURSE YOU ARE RIGHTFULLY CAUGHT IN YOUR INFERIORITY COMPLEX SO YOU NEED TO DAILY BASH TWILIGHT SO YOU CAN FEEL THEN YOUR “NONE ATTENTION WHATSOEVER HG OR ITS STARS” ARE BETTER

rez,you really need to take a freakin chill pill!!! your making this into a bigger deal than it is.and sweetie,i too
am a ‘grown up’ and i have read all the twi books and seen
the movies, but i am not having a damn hissy fit over something as rediculous as BD1 only getting 2 noms. your
being a childish brat.you may say that your a grown up,but
you act like a 5 year old.AND BTW,COMMENTING IN ALL CAPS DOES NOTHING!! but make you look silly.
the funny thing is,i have a mental pic of you stomping your lil feet and cryin like a lil baby.
oh and also, just because someone says that, god forbid,
another movie was better than BD1,does not mean that they are not a bunch of idiots, etc. so stop with the namecalling!
and good for you for being a huge supporter of the twi saga.
a lot of people are.the only difference is that these fans
are not behaving like immature adults because of the 2 noms.
so plz.,take your own advise and just don’t watch the awards
this year.and for goodness sakes, get some freakin anger-
management help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
—PEACE & LOVE—-

They did this because Summit didn’t show BD:PART 2’S trailer at the MTV awards, they are also trying to bring more attention to THG. I dont disagree but let JL win, she was so AWESOME in THG.

did you really just say that the twilight audience bond is stronger than the harry potter bond really? REALLY Jesus don’t ever compare these two movies or the fan base ever again people have loved the harry potter movies way longer and harder than the twilight fans will ever be able to while i must admit they are way crazier but asking some of the actors bite them

Look, I like Twilight but this movie was not that good. The Hunger Games and Harry Potter were WAY better and they deserve all their nominations. So calm down about how Twilight and Rob and Kristen were ‘dissed’ and focus on all the amazing movies and people that were nominated.

Whoever wrote this article is making a HUGE deal about this…
No, Twilight CANNOT compare to HP so there was no need to even bring that up. The writer is obviously a twihard who needs to take a chill pill and realize that The Hunger Games is a million times better than Twilight. Better cast, better story, better EVERYTHING. So accept the fact that Twilight’s infamous time has passed and the American audience has moved on to better and bigger movies.

HP is Bigger then any Twilight movie out there. Its lowest gross was even bigger than Twilight’s higest movie earning. And sadly yes, a lot of fans will Compare. THG and HP are way better then Twilight. Twilight revolves around love while HP revolves around fanatasy, friends, family, sacrifice and also love. And THG revolves around Family, Love, and mostly to Fight for what is right. So, that said, BD is not dissed, it;s just put to their place. I agree with MTV Nominations 100%
