The MTV Awards Dissed 'Breaking Dawn Part I'

Breaking Dawn MTV

It’s bad enough that the MTV Awards, which will be televised on June 3, didn’t nominate either Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson for Best Female or Male Performance, but they almost gave the cold shoulder entirely to Breaking Dawn Part I.

What is with the MTV Awards? Why have they almost completely ignored one of the biggest blockbusters loved by their audience in the past year?

Breaking Dawn Part I, has grossed $701,989,889 in the past year. That’s NOT small potatoes! And you can bet, that the Breaking Dawn audience is EXACTLY the same audience that will watch the MTV Movie Awards.

So why is Breaking Dawn Part I being slighted with only nominations for Movie of the Year and Best Kiss? Meanwhile The Hunger Games, has nominations for Movie of the Year, Best Male Performance for Josh Hutcherson, Best Female Performance for Jennifer Lawrence, Best Breakthrough Performance for Liam Hemsworth, Best Cast, Best On-Screen Transformation for Elizabeth Banks, Best Fight, and Best Kiss.

Yes, Hunger Games is a terrific film too, and it’s grossed $601 million worldwide so far, but we at Hollywoodlife would argue that the Breaking Dawn cast is as strong as Hunger Games, Robert Pattinson is as worthy as Josh Hutcherson in Hunger Games or Channing Tatum in The Vow. Kristen Stewart embodies Bella Swan, as well as Jennifer Lawrence becomes Katniss in Hunger Games and she was certainly just as, if not more memorable than Emma Stone, as Hannah in Crazy, Stupid, Love – all of whom received nominations.

Finally, Taylor Lautner has really been dissed, with his impressive fight against his fellow werewolves in Breaking Dawn? Why wasn’t he nominated in the Best Fight category?

What the MTV Awards are completely not realizing is the tremendous bond between the Twilight series films and their audience. It is unparalleled by any movie franchise, aside perhaps from Harry Potter ‘s. We could even argue that it’s stronger than the Harry Potter audience bond.

That’s because there is such intense fan interest in the off-screen lives of Twilight stars, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Peter Facineli, Ashley Greene and more. That interest out-bonds the interest in Danielle Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

That deep relationship between the Twilight fans and the films and the cast, counts enormously and the MTV Awards has ignored that critical fact.

Twilighters will NOT be happy about their favorite film being given short shrift! MTV should amend their nominations and add the cast to the Best Cast Category and Rob and Kristen to the Best Male and Female Performances categories!

Do you agree Hollywoodlifers? Tell me now and vote!

Honestly who ever wrote this forgot that yes twilight is a great franchise but if fans think that in breaking dawn they dnt deserve all those categories then move on and plus you can’t argue with the bond between fans for harry potter against twilight, harry potter is legend and twilight is on the radar toward legend when it comes to the bond between fans. And does anybody agree with me that edward and bella shouldn’t have gotten the best kiss award or even in the category. like their kisses are so boring and lifeless so i think they should be lucky that they got in any categories, and plus this is the first time when twilight dnt get all the glory and now all twilight fans are going crazy like serious little girls and grown women ya’ll really need to grow up.

the hunger games and breaking dawn are both great movies..and i know that breaking dawn wins too much but honestly breaking dawn was better than the other ones they made and so i think the twilight cast deserves a liitle more recocognition the than just two freaking nominations they got.so yeah they should have gotten nominated for more than two awards..i agree MTV was dissing breaking dawn:p

The Twilight movies jump over the critics, they couldn’t snatch success. The media that were once part of it now give back, but what else can you expect from them if their work is hypocrisy and interest? THE TWILIGHT MOVIES WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR THOUSANDS WITH A SIGH OF LOVE, hunger games only as a blockbuster.

i have agree hunger games is much better and mtv made a very smart move, not saying breaking dawn was horrible but it been nominated every year for like 3 years people are probably sick of seeing same thing, plus hunger games is suppose be the next big thing, so why would they waste there time giving twilight saga one last year in nominees when they know hunger games all anyone is talking about.

ME PARECE UNA TOTAL FALTA DE RRESWPETO ESTO LA SAGA CREPUSCULO ES LA MEJOR QUE HAN PODIDO CREARSIN MENCIONAR A SU GRAN ESCRITORA ESTEPHANY MEYER ELLA Y LA SAGA MERECEN GANAR LOS PREMIOS DE LOS CUALES SI DEBEN ESTAR NOMINADOS Y NO JUEGOS DEL HAMBRE YA QUE ESA PELICULA VALE MIERDA

Personally, I applaud MTV for trying to regain some semblance of an honest awards show. The crazed Twilight fans stuff the “ballot box” and make a joke of any show that allows online voting. The alienation of the Twilighters can only be a good thing.

Twilight still in the Best movie, so, what are you trying to say? MTV is not serious now, MTV just didnt nominee Twilight to the other categories because we all know Twilight would win. Twilight won all the categories in the past 3 years. MTV is just wanting to give a chance to other actors/movies.

Maybe they did it because of the stupid Twilight monopoly on the mtv awards for the last couple of years…I mean is every bella/edward kiss really best kiss worthy, and are they really the best actor/actress every year? Not that I don/t love Twilight but I would like to see others win some awards. SO come on HUNGER GAMES.

It´s good girl, now you should thank MTV for give you the awards so easy, you have to take Twilight out of nominations just to have the chance to win……….SO SORRY

This MTV is not about QUALITY, this is about POPULARITY, people voting for their favorites. If you want to see quality awards you should watch the oscars or golden globes or anything like it. It´s really bad I think this was an interesting “fight” HG versus Twilight…..Too bad MTV is kissing your……

I agree with thewobblygoblin that BD1 was a terrible movie. Even Rob Pattinson said in an interview that when you know the movie will be a success even before you film it that you don’t have to try that hard. Obviously they didn’t. Look on the bright side – at least when you are clicking the vote button 24 hours a day you only have to keep up with two categories.

So this is what happened to THG? Cause everybody knows it would be the next sucess teen flick serie. We all know why Robert and Kristen arent in the nominees list. Because, just like in the past 3 years they would win every category. Its not because they suck. Breaking Dawn is in the Movie of the Year category. How can a movie be good without good acting?

Well, I’m going to go against the grain and i’ll say this; breaking dawn part 1 sucked big time.

Before you diss me, or chase me faster than Jacob but with a pitchfork, hear this; i’ve read all the books, and uptown film 3, I WAS via biggest fan of twilight. But breaking dawn part 1 was disappointing, as it missed out loads, was very pressumptive, and played it safe. It didn’t have the same glossy well done feel to it, as the first 3 films.

It was melodramatic, annoying, and poorly made. The first 5 minutes, and last 15-2-12 minutes are good though. Also the hidden part ln the credits, with Aro and the rest at the voltori made the entire film LOL.

Most hardcore fans are so besotted, that they are in denial, about how much it sucked – literally LMAO.

Remember, I am, or *was* the biggest twilight fan.

Now, sharpen your pitchforks and try and catch me. LOL..

What are you saying? BD is in the movie of the year category. Everyone has the right to dislike or even hate something. But the fact is MTV is saying BD is very good (because they nominated it for the best movie), but the actors not (they didnt nominate any)? Illogical.

I am a huge Twilight fan also, movies and books but BD1 was awful. The wedding/love making scene and birth were great but overall the music was annoying the acting outside of the main leads was painful to watch, the melodramatic instrumentals blaring over the dialogue was awful. I felt like I was watching a really bad after school special. And the wolves…dear God!!! Bill Condon was disappointing and unfortunately the next one will most likely be the same style. I wish they brought back Chris Weiss on this one cus New Moon was great! IMO Kristen Stewart should have been nominated bc this truly was some of her best work, but Movie of the year, please.

This whole article is childish and very biased. It’s not news. Go blog about it on tumblr. Having a big audience doesn’t mean it needs nominations. Like nuttay said, remember the razzies?
Also, bringing HP and THG into this is ridiculous. They’re strong films. If we’re bringing earning into this, remember how the lowest grossing HP film still made more than the hightest grossing twilight film? I do.
Plus, saying it has the strongest fandom is stupid. Yes it’s strong, but the strongest? No. You don’t understand the bonds of other fandoms. You’re not part of them.
My advice? Go out. Get some facts and a proper story before writing a “news article”. Just a thought.

The thing about this article is that it is not news. This whole site is just editorialized. Bias is the way to go I guess for journalists of Hollywood life.

If it were a news article, the whole thing would be objective.

I totally agree with what you’re saying. It’s way stupid to say that Twilight has the “strongest”fanbase. Totally ridiculous.

The fact is Breaking Dawn got the nominee for Best Movie. So, dont you think its strange that a movie is in the movie of the year category without the actors? How can a movie be good without good actors?

About the power of the fandom, the fact is Twilight had won all the categories in the past 3 years. HP never won over Twilight in the MTV Movie Awards. Just saying, it doesnt matter. We all know Kristen would win again. And thats why MTV didnt nominated them.

The core of the article is whining about twilight not getting acknowledged? First off big blockbuster does not signify a good movie. I’m not saying they aren’t good actors/actresses but they doesn’t seem like they deserve it, they didn’t do an outstanding job they are just riding on the brand “twilight” and not everything that has the title twilight should get nominated for everything. Big fan base, good for them but seriously breaking dawn was just… oh look we are getting married lets make love and have babies <- that is literally the entire plot. It was painful to watch and I wish i have that hour of my life back. But, let's not forget at least breaking dawn got nominated for eight razzies

“First off big blockbuster does not signify a good movie.” So why is Breaking Dawn in the Movie of the Year category? Dont you think its illogical a movie be good without good actors? It would make more sense if they didnt nominee BD for best movie. But they nominated it. So, its obvious they didnt nominate twilight actors because they knew Twilght would win every category just like in the past 3 years.
