Grant Bowler gives HollywoodLife.com the scoop on his new ‘GCB’ character — and what he has in store for the biggest secret in Texas.
Blake (Mark Deklin) and Cricket (Miriam Shor) have done a pretty good job of keeping their “white marriage” under wraps on GCB this season, but a handsome newcomer could blow their private life wide open! Ugly Betty veteran Grant Bowler two-steps it to Texas on the show’s April 29 episode, and he tells HollywoodLife.com he’s “definitely a threat” to their perfect little set up.
“He’s certainly a fox in the henhouse because he discovers the nature of their relationship,” Grant tells me. “He takes that as a greenlight to pursue [Cricket] more aggressively. … I like messing with the powerful girls. There’s a saying in Australia, where I come from, that goes, ‘Why wrestle when you know who’s going to win?'”
Grant’s character, Mason Massey, comes into the picture when Cricket wants to breed one of her prized mares. It turns out Mason has (and maybe is) just the stud she’s looking for.
“That double entendre runs the whole length of the episode,” Grant says. “She’s trying to hold onto it being about business, and he doesn’t want it to be that way. … She’s used to running everything, so I think that’s what sparks the whole thing off. He bites down and pursues her; he’s not shy.”
Fans can also expect Mason to stick around through the May 6 finale, possibly longer if ABC renews GCB for a second season.
“We left a ball hanging,” Grant teases. “I’d love to come back and break a bit more furniture before saying goodbye. You really want to let all the chickens out of the coop before you leave a job, that’s my philosophy.”
But there’s one place you shouldn’t expect to see Mason: in church!
“I think after all the roles I’ve played over the years,” Grant says, “I would just burst into flames.”
