Heidi Klum Met Ball

Heidi told us about what it’s like getting ready for the most fashionable night of the year — and she gushed about her custom-made dress!

While usually at lunch time I find myself eating a salad in front of my laptop in between appointments and writing stories, that wasn’t the case on Apr. 25, when I headed to the Hudson Hotel for an intimate lunch with Heidi Klum, celebrating the launch of her latest Wildlife for QVC collection. After checking out the statement jewelry that decorated the table, we got to chat with Heidi herself, who told us exclusively about her dress for the 2012 Met Ball.

Heidi, who arrived a few minutes late after explaining how someone took her luggage by mistake at the airport, looked gorgeous in a long-sleeved black Michael Kors mini. Luckily after a quick phone call, her good friend Michael had a dress and a pair of pumps messengered right over to her. She looked gorgeous, accessorizing with her own jewelry.

Since we were on the topic of fashion, I seized the opportunity to ask Heidi about her plans for the 2012 Met Ball — and she excitedly told us all about what she would wear on the red carpet! “Escada is making a dress for me,” she said. “It’s very very lacy and very very see through.”

Heidi went on to say the whole process started with drawings, and she actually had her first fitting this week. “This week they came to LA for the first time for the first fitting. The designer came from Germany, I tried it on three days ago and it fit!”

Whether she’s walking the red carpet or the runway, Heidi is a pro — but she did say the Met Ball is an experience like no other! “You have to be a little bit cooler, since it is an event about fashion. You can get away with more at the Oscars — you can’t be cheesy [at the Met Ball],” she said.

We can’t wait to see what Heidi’s dress looks like, but in the meantime visit QVC starting on May 17 to see Klum showcase several new pieces, including bracelets, necklaces, earring and rings.
