Just 18 days after Giuliana’s breast removal surgery, the Rancics get the best news they could have hoped for — they’re going to be parents!
Giuliana Rancic and husband Bill Rancic‘s lives are turned upside down when they find out their surrogate is pregnant with their baby, only two and a half weeks after Giuliana’s mastectomy to remove her breast cancer.
Giuliana, 37, is still sore from surgery when the Rancics head to New York City to host a New Years’ Eve event in Times Square. But neither one of them can concentrate on planning their romantic midnight kiss as they wait on pins and needles for their fertility doctor to call with the results of their surrogate’s pregnancy test.
“We’re praying this implantation works,” Giuliana says. “It has to work. Because if it doesn’t, I don’t know what we’re gonna do.”
Giuliana and Bill, 40, had frozen only two embryos, so finding out whether their implantation was successful determines whether they will have to start the baby-making game all over in 2012 — or if they can look forward to being parents.
When they hear they’re “100 percent pregnant,” Giuliana immediately breaks down in hysterical, happy tears — and even always-composed Bill can’t hold back the water works when they finally hear the news they’ve been aching to hear for years.
“I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry or to dance,” he says. “I didn’t know what to do.”
“You’re making our dreams come true,” he tells their surrogate. “Today a miracle happened in our lives and if it wasn’t for you this wouldn’t have happened.”
Bill convinces Giuliana they should savor the moment, even though she wants to announce their baby news right away on live TV to the millions of people who will be watching on New Year’s Eve. But their excitement shines through and they’re both all-smiles when they hit Times Square!
“We’ve been through hell and back and I just want to look towards the future,” Giuliana says. “I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off our shoulders and its making the future so bright.”
