The legendary singer of The Band lost his battle with throat cancer — so sad.
Levon Helm, who made an indelible mark on the music world as the lead singer and drummer of The Band, died on April 19 at age 71.
Levon was the creative force behind some of The Band’s biggest hits, including “The Weight” and “Up On Cripple Creek”. He was diagnosed with throat cancer in the 1990s and has struggled with it ever since. He died in New York City, surrounded by his friends and fellow Band members.
