Close family confirms that drummer Levon Helm of the legendary rock group The Band is fighting for his life.
In a personal note written by his wife and daughter on the drummer’s website, Levon Helm, 71, is “in the final stages of his battle with cancer.”
“Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey,” Helm’s family tells fans.
The family also thanks fans for their support over the years. Helm was diagonsed with cancer in 1998 and has undergone radiation therapy since.
Helm who is known for his soulful country voice and his unique drumming style had a remarkable career with The Band. Together they released hit songs such as, “The Weight” and “Up On The Creek.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this difficult time.
