There was no way three-month-old Afreen Farooq could stand a chance in the world if her father, Umar Farooq, beat her up since she was a newborn. He wasn’t happy she wasn’t the boy he wanted, The Daily Mail reports. The helpless infant died at a south Indian hospital in Banglore on April 11.
The baby girl was the first child for Farooq, 37, and his 19-years-old wife, Reshma Banu. The father beat his wife as well because she gave birth to Afreen.
After suffering from severe convulsions, the baby’s cause of death was cardiac arrest and internal head injuries.
The father confessed to beating the infant and was then arrested and charged with the attempted murder on April 8.
In India, the killing of the female fetus and female children is rampant. Indian men of all social classes prefer male children.
The sex ratio in India is 914 girls per 1,000 boys, the 2011 Census reports.
