Lamar Odom Chose Khloe Kardashian & Family Over His Career, Says Expert

Mon, April 9, 2012 1:13pm EDT by 33 Comments

Khloe Kardashian, it’s time to give your husband Lamar, all the love and support you can, now that he’s decided to “step away” from the Dallas Mavericks.

Khloe Kardashian – “stepping aside” from the Dallas Mavericks for the rest of the season was a huge, huge decision that Lamar Odom has just made. And it has to have been a tough decision. Lamar wasn’t playing anywhere near the best basketball of his career, but Hollywoodlife.com has heard for the past few weeks that he’s felt torn between basketball and the demands of filming Khloe & Lamar with you, his wife Khloe.

Now, it appears that Lamar, 32, may have decided that his family is more important than his career. “The Kardashians are really the first family he’s ever had in his life and they’re a powerful force,” believes relationship expert Cooper Lawrence, who is the author of the novel, The Yoga Club. “Lamar was raised by his grandmother but she died when he was a teen, his mother died when he was just 12 and his father was a heroin addict.”

Cooper believes that Lamar wasn’t happy dividing his time between his team and his family, especially after being cut from his beloved LA Lakers. “He loves Khloe more than his career and he wants to be around for kids, not on the road. Not having texts sent to him from his kids.” AS well as trying to start a family with Khloe, Lamar also has two children , daughter Destiny, 14 and son, Lamar Jr, 11, with ex-girlfriend Liza Morales. Although his children live in New York City with their mom, both Khloe and Lamar love to spend time with them.

Cooper says Lamar will be much happier, moving back to LA where Khloe’s family is and enjoying the “love and support he never had growing up.”

But Cooper also warns Khloe that Lamar is going to need her unconditional love and support more than ever while he makes his transition from playing professional basketball to whatever his post-BB career is. Fortunately, money will not be an issue for the couple – Lamar’s estimated net worth is between $65 and $95 million.

Psychotherapist Dr. Gilda Carle agrees that Khloe needs to stand by her man and tell Lamar she loves him “no matter what”, because she feels this could be a tough time for the couple.

If Lamar feels that “stepping aside” from the Mavericks is in any way a failure, then he could feel “emasculated,” and he could actually “blame her.” People often blame the person who is closest to them,” points out Dr. Gilda, Today.com’s 30 Second therapist.

Well, let’s hope for both Khloe and Lamar’s sake that Lamar feels totally happy and empowered by his decision and is ready to put his marriage and family first.

There’s one thing for sure that he should know about becoming part of the Kardashian family: life will be an adventure!

Kris Humphries is not aware how lucky is he?….Divorce was sent from heaven!!!
He would eventually end up like Lamar except KH is much younger and it would be a lot worse.

Odom is a disgrace. He refused to honor his side of a contract, but was more than willing to take the money and bail out. He and the Kardashians deserve each other. Useless bags…

Age ain’t nothing but a number for these loved-up A-Listers. My BF and I both think so! He is almost 10 years older than I. We met via ~~Agelessmeet .COM~~ a nice place for younger women and older men, or older women and younger men, to interact with each other! Maybe you wanna check it out or tell your friends :)

When those who don’t know the game report on the game.

Lamar is an NBA player for the Mavs. The trade was a bust for everyone. He has had a terrible 3 months in Dallas which led the Mavs to place him on the inactive list. He is still under contract with the Mavs. The Mavs made this decision but all parties agreed this was best. Lamar will use the time to get his head right and be ready for new season. He’s not giving up his career. Things didn’t work out in Dallas. Lamar is a decorated role player he will sign with a new team this summer.

JEALOUSY,they are a family just like everyone else, they just chose to air it,if it were you on a show with your family ,i dont think you would appreciate those negative comments about your family ,so dont judge them unless you have met them personally, and that is reality

I read the Mavs released Lamar from the team and put him on the inactive list. I pretty sure he will still get paid but he can’t do anything in basketball until next year. I don’t know if he will continue in basketball next year or not but he is done for this year.

He didn’t choose his family over basketball — he was FIRED for not doing his job. The Mavs let him save face by allowing him to say they were “jointly” parting ways, but this story is comical.

These experts giving advice need sound ridiculous.

He wasn’t fired. He won’t miss a check and is guarranteed 2.5 mill next season. So, he’ll get the 2.5 mill and a new contract.

Tress, you are clueless & know nothing about sports. He is totally fired with severance. He will never wear a Mavs Jersey again.

Totally FIRED! The Mavs tried everything to get this clown to take his job seriously. They even tried putting him in the minor league to let him know they were serious. It didn’t work and now he won’t either…

Lamar was DEACTIVATED by the Dallas Mavericks. The fact that they let him release a statement claiming he was involved in the decision is incorrect. He was gone no matter what and Dallas just wants to keep the leverage to trade him.

He wouldn’t or couldn’t play in Dallas. End of story.

Nice journalistic effort there, Bonnie.

If he wasn’t released – he needed to be. I guess it separates the “real” ballplayers, like Fisher, from the D League. See ya’ Odom.
