Wow — victory in the morning show war! Katie’s week-long stint as co-host of ‘Good Morning America’ led the show to a narrow ratings win over ‘Today’ on April 4 — knocking the NBC show out of the No.1 spot for the first time in 16 years!
GMA and Today have been increasingly neck-and-neck in the battle for viewers, and it looks like Katie Couric was just what the ABC show needed for a ratings win! Is GMA officially now America’s favorite morning show?
The margin was pretty narrow in the one-day victory, with 87,000 more viewers tuning into GMA than Today, but a win is still a win! According to Nielsen research, 5.236 million viewers watched GMA, while 5.149 million viewers tuned into Today.
Sarah Palin and Katie battled it out this week at the anchor desks, with Sarah’s appearance as guest host on Today pushing the show’s viewership WAY up on April 3, to 5.5 million viewers.
We LOVED watching Katie shine on GMA this week! She already looks right at home at ABC, which will start airing her new syndicated afternoon talk show starting in September.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? What’s your favorite morning show — Today or Good Morning America?

On how Palin is an ill-informed dolt: What newspapers and mngeziaas did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world? Couric wouldn’t let go: Like what ones specifically? and Can you name a few? I don’t think her adoring fans on the Right know how tired many of the rest of us are of politicians who refuse to answer questions – especially basic simple questions. Quite frankly, given her answers, many of us (including conservatives like Cal Thomas and Kathleen Parker) are beginning to think that this governor is seriously under- and wrongly-informed. That she is in WAY over her head and not prepared to be in a role like Vice President of the US.That’s not necessarily a harsh criticism of Palin. I am a very intelligent and well-read guy and I would have a hard time answering some questions (not the what mngeziaas do you read? one, but others). But I’m not running for veep. You ought to be pretty well-informed if in some pretty specific and wide-ranging areas if you want to convince people to vote for you for such a high office. She comes across as NOT open to answering questions and as NOT being able to answer them even if she tried. Many of us are beginning to suspect that she is anti-science, anti-transparency, anti-reason and just not especially smart. We’ve had eight years of what we perceive to be idiotic, anti-reason, anti-science, anti-transparency leadership in Bush and we want a change.
