The battle between the teams has officially begun! Christina’s team took on Blake’s team April 2 for the first live showdown of the season.
Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine‘s teams finally got to relax April 2, as they watched Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton’s teams perform live. The night was filled with 12 different performances of which only a couple stood out — for good and bad reasons.
Team Blake’s highlights included country cutie Raelynn, who brought a whole lot of spice and stage presence to her performance and seemed like a completely different person that we’ve previously seen. Christina was so surprised, she even asked if Raelynn was allowed to “grind her hips” the way she did at her tender age. And one of my favorites, Jessie Campbell closed the night with a powerhouse vocal that definitely showed who is the one to beat.
Some lows for Team Blake were Naia Kete, who did a rendition of “Turning Tables” that was too big for her, and Charlotte Sometimes, who took on Paramore — but sounded like a confused Florence Welch. And for some reason I didn’t even recognize Jordis Unga, who decided to go all diva and lose the rocker edge I liked to begin with. However, that’s not to say her vocals weren’t good.
Over on Team Christina, Moses Stone sounded like he was screaming more than rapping “Stronger” and “Power” by Kanye West, and while Lindey Pavao brought the quirkiness, her overall performance was a bit lacking.
Sera Hill, who got Christina to sing with her on stage during her first audition, brought out her “Mary J. Blige swag” while singing a Drake song. She may just be Christina’s strongest competitor! But the real surprise of the night for Team Christina was 17-year-old Ashley De La Rosa, who charmed the coaches with her pipes, making her a strong contender.
So who has the stronger team? I’d say it’s still anyone’s game. Both coaches had strong contestants, but you never know how people are going to vote!
Who do you think won the night Team Christina or Team Blake? And which contestant(s) do you want to go home?
