Amanda Beard Depression

The US Olympian confesses in a new memoir that she battled cutting and depression while winning gold medals.

Amanda Beard became a household name in the ’90s when she plunged into Olympic swimming at just 14 years old. But she reveals that life wasn’t perfect as a young athlete!

Amanda, 30, says that as a teen, she was cutting herself, abusing drugs and alcohol, and suffering from bulimia — all while winning Olympic medals and keeping up a successful modeling career, RadarOnline.com reports.

The book, which hits stores April 3, is called In the Water They Can’t See You Cry. In it, Amanda says the pressure to win was overwhelming and led to the tough issues she dealt with.

Thankfully, she got professional help and is now a happy, healthy wife and mom. She’s even vying for a spot on the US team for this summer’s Olympic Games in London!

You go girl! You’re so brave for getting help and getting back in the pool. We can’t wait to see you compete again!

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Is Amanda Beard setting a good example by speaking out about her past?
