Michelle Duggar Defends Having 19 Kids: Overpopulation Is A Lie

The ’19 Kids and Counting’ mom defends against critics who say having 19 kids is wasteful! She thinks the world needs MORE kids! Do you agree?

In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Michelle Duggar says she sees nothing wasteful about having a large family in an overpopulated world. “The idea of overpopulation is not accurate,” Michelle says, because, according to her, the entire population of the world could fit inside the city limits of Jacksonville, Florida.

“I agree with Mother Teresa when she said, ‘to say that there are too many children is like saying there are too many flowers,'” Michelle adds.

She goes on to explain that her family — all 22 of them — are resourceful to help reduce the family’s environmental impact. She says they buy used cars, shop at thrift stores and more. She also brings up other countries whose death rates outnumber their birth rates as a reason there should be more children.

Rather than concentrate on overpopulation, Michelle says “we need to focus on loving people and trying to reach out and make a difference for good in our world.”

Do you agree with Michelle? Or do you think overpopulation is a big issue?

Firstly, we don’t get to define what overpopulation is. It’s not up to us. Secondly, regardless of what you think about her beliefs – do the math – SHE’S NOT WRONG. If you use the 7 billion pop. figure that researchers are using, take 885 sq. mi. for the area of Jacksonville, with a 1.5 foot square for the average space a person would need to stand…she’s absolutely right. We would all fit standing shoulder to shoulder. The 1.5 foot square is generous in my opinion, but even if you double that and give each person a 3 foot square…we would still all fit. And then some.

I agree with her, but not for the same reason. Most first world nations are heading toward a labour crisis considering the amount of children being born to people (namely baby boomers) becoming retired. At the rate we’re going we either need a higher fertility rate or a higher immigration rate. If we don’t supplement our ageing population, give it a few decades, and we’ll have roughly 2-3 retirement age people for every working aged person. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why that isn’t good.

Yes, they may wear used clothing, drive used cars, etc., but what about the water and other natural resources they are using…that is what people mean by talking about “over population”.

The number of children one has is a personal choice. At some point both the parents need to ask themselves if the risk of 20 pregnancies that included multiple births, pre-term delivery, miscarrage and advanced age is worth the risk anymore. Her last few pregnancies have not been easy and Josie problems from such a early birth followed by a second trimester miscarriage in my opinion are signs her reproduction years maybe over and to enjoy the children she already has without making them raise each other.

Yep, personal choice, and I guess the Duggars believe it is in God’s hands. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion! So be it. Raising each other is a good thing, it appears there is still a strong family bond between all of the Duggar children, extended family, and parents. Too bad more families are not as well adjusted as the Duggars.

I love the Duggars and they are a self reliant and responsible family who have strong religious beliefs. I am sure they will probably adopt in the future.

Maybe people should adopt like Kate Gosselin’s sister who claims to be religious but has a website begging for money to finance her adoption!

If they want to keep adding children to there already huge collection, and if they are as religious as they say they are, Then why not adopt children that are already here on earth and help. I think it is gross that she has had that many children, Her poor body and vagina! I stopped watching there show awhile back as I thought they were like a cult inside there own family.

Oh please Michelle, the Duggars are awsome and not a cult. Strong religious beliefs yes, but cult no. So glad to see TLC has left this show on the air. An inspiring family with morals and integrity. Yea!

If they have such high morals then why are they using their children for publicity and money. I can tell you that if they stopped having kids the cameras would stop rolling and so would the cash. That is most likely the reason they are constantly having kids. The bible says to fill the world, not overpopulate the world. The bible says be fruitful and multiply, not overpopulate. Also you have to realize that you cannot use those bible quotes as an excuse to overpopulate and have many children, because then it is being taken way out of context. Times change and so does everything around us, so to use a certain belief in the wrong context is harmful. The advice in the bible has been used during times when man kind was basically nonexistent, like Noah and Adam and Eve. This family is not respecting all other living creatures on the world by overpopulating and taking up precious resources. The bible tells us to not be gluttonous or greedy and to have self control as well as moderation. If this family is that religious they would know and respect these rules in the bible, but they are not. Not only are they disregarding these rules but they are turning to media for money. I think that is disgraceful. They are having so many kids that each child is not being fully loved by or given enough attention by them, the parents, instead the sibling are taking over that role which I think is the most sinful. This is where a very important bible quote comes in “everything in moderation.” And please put much emphasis on “everything,” because that mean pregnancies too.

The Duggar children (& parents) are kind, considerate, giving, and responsible children that are currently giving back to society and doing volunteer work. So whatever the Duggars are doing, they are doing it right.

These children are not financial drains on the government or society or are they constantly on TV begging for money and a new show. The Duggars had a financial means and life that financially support the children and will continue to support the children long after reality TV.

It certainly beats exploitative and abusive parents who use their children as meal tickets, eg. the Gosselins, etc.

I have no issue with her “over populating” the world. My issue is that if she loves children so much then I feel she should provide a wonderful life to children who are less fortunate and adopt. Also, there are people out there dying to be able to have children and it’s almost like oh looky here I just popped out number 19. Maybe she could have even considered being a surrogate considering she has said before she loves being pregnant, therefore blessing another family with children. Just my opinion.

Tam, tam, you sound like Kate Gosselin. The only reality person who has a bazillion comments about needing mental help or therapy is regarding Kate Gosselin. So Kate, get off this website and get the therapy you need, lol, lol.

Michelle says : “we need to focus on loving people and trying to reach out and make a difference for good in our world.”

YOU say: “When the world is so overpopulated we run out of resources and all die I wonder what she’ll say.”

Maybe you should think before posting a comment calling someone else ‘ignorant’ when your post was anything BUT intelligent… I wonder what she will say WHEN WE ARE ALL DEAD??…yeah, me too…because dead people can clearly talk.

The whole world is disintegrating not due to over population and good hearted people, but due to irresponsible and bad hearted people, plain and simple. 40 kids, 1 kid. Oh that’s right, 16 and pregnant reality TV is producing high functioning children? Your comments are hysterical and unbalanced, really.
