I loved the book, so I’m super excited!
Your synopsis is fairly inaccurate. The “enemy spirits” are aliens called Souls who act like parasites by taking over the bodies of the dominate species of a planet. The aliens refer to the remaining uninhabited humans on earth as wild/feral. The Soul called Wanderer attempts to take over the body of a young woman named Melanie, but she refuses to just “fade away” like other human souls/consciousness. While Wanderer struggles for control, she is overwhelmed with feelings for and memories of Melanie’s boyfriend, Jared.
