Want to know what it is like working with some of the top celebrity designers to create gorgeous makeup looks? Julianne has the scoop!

Julianne Kaye, on-camera beauty expert for Maybelline on Fashion Star, tells you why she loved working with Fashion Star judge Nicole Richie and what products she packs in her own purse!

What was it like working with the celebrity designers on the show?
“It was so much fun! I especially loved working with Nicole [Richie]. I love her boho vibe. She is super easy — she gave me a little direction about the makeup, but she wasn’t all over me about it. She’s so fun, so funny. And Jessica [Simpson], I love her!”

What was the process of collaboration like? How much input did you have versus the designer?
“Each designer is different, you have a certain designer who knows exactly what they want, but if I thought it was ‘eh,’ I’d put my two cents in. But it’s their vision and I was just there to execute their brand. All around it was a great experience. I didn’t have anyone wanting to do anything unrealistic, you know, feathers and crystals and all that.”

What are a few of your beauty essentials?
1. “I just discovered the BeautyBlender,” says Julianne. “It is the holy grail of sponges. It really blends the makeup into the skin! “
2. Maybelline Falsies Mascara. “I use it on myself, everybody. It doesn’t flake and is not expensive. It’s a great drugstore buy.”
3. Baby Lips from Maybelline. “They’re amazing. They come in tinted colors, but they nourish your lips. I use it on so many girls.”
4. “Also, Yves Saint Laurent. [The product] is a mattifier for anyone who has problems getting really shiny. I love it on the red carpet. I used it on Kate Hudson a couple weeks ago.”

Who are your celebrity beauty inspirations?
“I love all that old Hollywood glamour. Elizabeth Taylor always looked so beautiful and Grace Kelly. I love what Jennifer Lawrence has been doing. She’s very experimental with her makeup on the red carpet, which is nice to see on younger people. It’s not just all about the smokey eyes. She looks fantastic!”
