Selena — it takes a lot of courage to not let yourself be pressured into drinking or partying by a ‘friend’ or co-star. You truly have your head on straight and we’re proud of you!
Selena Gomez, being away from home, your family and your boyfriend Justin Bieber is hard enough to deal with, so having a co-star trying to pressure you to drink or party and then teasing you, by calling you a “Disney Princess” is bound to have hurt.
Here you are working hard to transition into a more young adult film with Spring Breakers, and consciously leaving behind your history of, yes, starring in Disney’s 2009 original film, Princess Protection Program, and your co-star Vanessa Hudgens seems to be trying to undermine your self-confidence and your values, reports InTouch.
Well, we’re so happy here at HollywoodLife.com that you didn’t allow Vanessa to get under your skin and pressure you to do something that would have made you highly uncomfortable.
That shows just how mature you are. It also shows that you’ve clearly learned that you have to stand up to bullies from close friend Demi Lovato, who has talked openly about how bullying made her feel so insecure.
Luckily, you have close living family, the most supportive of boyfriends in Justin Bieber AND best friends like Demi Lovato AND Taylor Swift, who have spoken out about staying true to yourself. Taylor Swift has been very vocal about the fact that she has no interest in drinking. “I don’t like, like drinking. I’m not like ‘Man, that’s my favorite thing to do.’ And I don’t drink to get drunk because that’s just not cute,” she told 60 Minutes in an interview in November 2011.
You know what, with BFFs like Taylor and Demi, who needs to worry about a co-star like Vanessa.
Congrats on refusing to be a victim of bullying. We bet Vanessa actually really respects you — we sure do!
