Fan favorite Emily Maynard claims she’s looking for love on ‘The Bachelorette,’ but insiders reveal that the blonde bombshell has ulterior motives.
Emily Maynard has remained a household name since her very public courtship, and subsequent breakup, with Bachelor Brad Womack, so it didn’t come as a surprise to fans of the franchise when she was chosen to be the new Bachelorette. But Emily had her doubts. In July, the 26-year-old single mother tweeted, “I don’t want to be the Bachelorette,” claiming that she didn’t want to uproot her daughter, Ricki, from their home in Charlotte, NC. “She thought it would bring too much attention to her daughter,” a friend of Emily’s told In Touch. “She said she just cared about being a good mom and didn’t want cameras following her daughter around.”
Sensing the fans disappointment, ABC bent over backwards to accomodate Emily and arranged to have the filming take place in her hometown — plus, they sweetened the deal with a $250,000 paycheck. “That’s a lot of money,” added her friend.
Despite Emily’s protests that she wanted to keep Ricki as far away from the cameras as possible, a different insider adds that the fame-hungry blonde has wasted no time putting her six-year-old in the public eye. In fact, her very first one-on-one date with contestant Ryan Bowers, 31, featured a trip to Ricki’s soccer game. “The game was at Ricki’s elementary school, and they filmed the girls practicing,” the insider said. “Emily and Ryan stood on the sidelines with the other parents.”
The only one with Ricki’s best interests at heart are the parents of Emily’s deceased ex-boyfriend, Ricky Hendrick. “They are very close to Ricki and feel they should have a say in terms of what Emily involves her in,” the friend explained. However, Emily isn’t interested in their opinions — the lure of a massive ring, lavish digs, and national fame has taken control. “She’s a wannabe trophy wife and a gold digger,” added the friend. “That’s all she really cares about.”
What do you think think about Emily’s decision to put her daughter in the public eye? Do you think she’s doing The Bachelorette for all the wrong reasons?

This is a mean-spirited article that imputes wrong motives on Emily without evidence. I doubt this “friend” of hers that is quoted is really a friend. I rarely write comments but I feel compelled to write one. How does anyone know the motives of another person unless they are the other person? Emily seems like a genuine person who really loves her daughter. If she had a date which included her daughter, I could see the logic of that because she would want to see if the guy really would be into doing non-romantic kid-oriented activities… that it isn’t always going to be about him. I think she is one smart woman!!!
