If the viral video star had been found under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he was apprehended for indecent exposure, police say he would have served jail time.
Although it’s hard to believe that KONY 2012 filmmaker Jason Russell was clear-headed when he was picked up by San Diego police for allegedly vandalizing cars and engaging in public masturbation last Thursday, police say that had the 33-year-old been found under the influence of drugs or alcohol, he definitely would have gone to jail.
“It’s our belief that a medical condition would explain his irrational behavior as opposed to criminal intent,” police Lieutenant Andrea Brown said. “If we thought he was under the influence, we wouldn’t have taken him to a hospital — we would have taken him to jail.”
It is not known if Jason is still at the hospital. In an earlier statement, Invisible Children’s CEO Ben Keesey said, “He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday.”
