Several Idols spoke out after the show and said the news was jarring — even though Jermaine was their competitor. See what they said!

Jermaine Jones was ejected unceremoniously from American Idol, and even though his dismissal was caught on camera and was alleged to be a ratings booster, several Idols said the news still came as a shock!

Jermaine, 25, got the boot after four warrants for his arrest surfaced on the show. was at the March 14 taping and heard from several Idols who said they were blindsided by the news.

Joshua Ledet said the departure was troubling for all of the contestants.

“We didn’t really know what was going on,” he said. “We found out when America found out. We knew something was up because we didn’t see him around the studio. We had seen him rehearsing but once we got to the studio where we record we didn’t really see him in the building getting ready for dress rehearsal or anything. We knew something was up but we didn’t know what so when we found out with America we were all so devastated because we love him so much. He was a part of the family. Everyone here is a family so to see anyone go was hard. Just like Jeremy got eliminated last week — it was so tough for us. Seeing Jermaine go…he was kind of the person that kept the joy in the room and had everyone laughing. So seeing him leave was tough.”

Heejun Han said he can’t complain too much that his competition is getting eliminated.

“It’s very ironic because it’s like saying, ‘I’m sorry you are going home, but we’re not mad about it,'” he said. “Because it’s a competition. I really want to be honest about it. I’m not like, ‘Oh please don’t go, please don’t go!'”

Hollie Cavanagh said she thinks Jermaine has a bright future.

“It’s really unfortunate that it happened, but I mean he’s going to do huge things in music regardless if he’s on the show or not,” she said. “It’s just a little bump in the road. He’ll prevail and he’ll do big things.”

Skylar Laine said it was difficult to perform after hearing the news.

“I’m sorry Jermaine had to go home,” she said. “We will miss him. We didn’t know anything about it until tonight but we are praying for him. I was actually right up front because I was singing right afterward and I was just thinking, ‘What? What went down? That’s crazy.’ So I don’t know what was going on backstage but everybody was really awestruck. I had to look happy in the camera and smile like, ‘I’m next!’ It was a sad moment. It was hard.”

Colton Dixon was sad he didn’t get to say goodbye to the dismissed singer.

“The rumors started last night and we had heard he had gone, but we didn’t know why,” he said. “No goodbyes. We found out what happened when you guys did. We were shocked, but at the same time he’s such a great guy. We all love him to death. He’s truly the gentle giant. He handled himself so well, I’m proud of him.”

Phil Phillips said he thought the whole ordeal was unfortunate.

“It was sad to see somebody go like that, with an awesome voice,” he said. “It sucks.”
