'The Lying Game' Likely Being Renewed For Second Season

Wed, March 14, 2012 6:21pm EDT by 64 Comments

Sound the ‘good news’ alarm, friends! It sounds like there’s more ‘Lying Game’ on the way.

Lying Game fans may not be left wondering whether or not Sutton (Alexandra Chando) and Rebecca (Charisma Carpenter) have been working together all along, as our sister site Deadline.com is reporting that ABC Family is very close to renewing the twisty drama for a second season.

If you’re a regular HollywoodLife.com reader, you may recall my passionate diatribe about why the show deserves a second season, so you can only imagine how pleased I am by this news.

Deadline also notes that the Lying Game cast will becoming to NYC for ABC Family’s Upfront event — which means you should probably think about shooting me your every burning question for the residents of Phoenix.

Question for Alexandra Chando – If the writers chose to have you play Sutton as the killer of Derek, are you prepared for being maybe the first actor to play such a roll in a prime time soap drama? Because as bad as J.R. Ewing, Alexis Carrington Colby, Abby Ewing, or Paige Matheson were, they never murdered anyone, except for Paige but that was an accident. Question – For your character Emma, if the writers chose for her to be on her own, sort of kicked to the curb, what will you draw from to showcase any changes, maturity that we viewers might see?

Sutton was in the garage, we know, we saw it on camera so she’s definitely not the killer. She left Emma to provide the alibi that proved to be full of holes because Emma hadn’t been in the garage.

Question for everyone – How many days did season one elapse over? Seems the best guess is 60, only because the first three episodes cover three sequential days each. But does anyone know for sure?

Question for Christian Alexander – Like a Greek play, your character has done something to his father that in some circles is considered, well, what do you think of playing the roll of the son that turns his father in? What moral ground do you think your character will take in the coming season? Also, if the writers chose your character to become, or identified as a killer, how would you change your preparations for season 2?

Question for Blair Redford. Near the end of the season, you started to receive hate mail for your character kissing Sutton. Looking back, were you prepared for the viewers reactions? Your character was infrequently seen using technology, but never getting very far, as in Sutton having to show where the doctored photo was on Rebecca’s computer. Are you a tech savvy guy, or are you more comfortable with other interest such as sports, or thrill adventures? Do you mind the Texas summer heat?

Well…Age and wealth ain’t nothing but a number for
these loved-up A-Listers. My BF and I both think so! He
is almost 10 years older than I. We met via
~~–Agelessmeet .COM~~ a nice place for younger women
and older men, or older women and younger men, to interact
with each other! Maybe you wanna check it out or tell
your friends :)

Question for Alice Greczyn. Would you characterize Mads as a daughter that has committed an ultimate betrayal of their father, and if so why, and if not why not? At times in season one, your character had brilliant moments of combative conversations with Christian Alexander’s Thayer, even making demands such as the time Mads asked why they were not asking their father if he murdered Derek. Where does that energy displayed in those scenes come from?

Will Christian Alexander, who’s been in nearly every episode this season, finally get promoted to series regular next season?

Question for Allie Gonino. You mentioned that your wardrobe was too light this past season, and that you are interest in darker colors for Allie. Why dark? Many of the best quotes from season one were delivered by you, and your character at times was the comic relief. If there were a gag reel in the DVD/BlueRay box set, how many scenes of yours might be included? What might you like for Laurel to add to her personality in a season two?

Question for Tyler Christopher – If the writers were to give your character a promotion, what might you enjoy playing? Some have posted that the best father figure of season one was that of Dan. How do you reflect on such comments of being a positive father figure roll model? What advancement in the character Dan would you like to see in regard to family relationships and Theresa? Maybe moving out of that lovely trailer?

For Helen Slater. Question. The Lying Game has not had any grandparent figure on the show. If your character was to interact with a Father or Mother character, how would you approach the change that Kristen might have to alter? Would you see a care giver role or one that is more butting heads?

Question for Andy Buckley. There was only one mention of the mob in this past season, by Justin to Laurel. If the writers asked you to alter your character to a darker side, and audiences have come to know you in comedies, are you prepared for task, and for the audience backlash of seeing you as a villain?

Questions for Adrian Pasdar. Your character Alec Rybak might have been a murderer. As an actor, how far is to far when the bad guy has gone too far for your comfort? What crosses the line for you? Also, as a father, playing a father whose own children appear to have betrayed him, what can you draw from to show on the screen how that emotion could be expressed?

The Annie Hobbs question. Is there still a possibility that Annie H is in fact the twins mother after all and Rebecca’s lying to Sutton about it?

Here’s a question for Alex if she’s at the Upfronts. In her opinion, does she think Sutton has any sisterly love for Emma? She can’t hate her THAT much, right? Thanks!

I’ve talked to Alexandra a few times about how Sutton as a person and she’s always been quick to defend her. Maybe she knows something we don’t. ;)
