'Celebrity Apprentice' Recap: Adam Corolla & Michael Andretti Fired In Shocking Double Elimination

Mon, March 12, 2012 12:49am EDT by 63 Comments

The ladies were at each other’s throats, but that didn’t stop Adam Carolla & Michael Andretti from getting fired in an oh-so dramatic fashion.

On the March 11 episode of Celebrity Apprentice, the contestants dived right into this week’s task: creating a “thoughtful” ten-minute presentation and Q&A session to introduce the Buick Verano to a live audience and online viewers. When comedian Adam Carolla and pop icon Debbie Gibson volunteered to be project managers for their teams, Donald Trump made it clear he was disappointed IndyCar legend Michael Andretti didn’t step up to the plate. Right away, you knew Michael’s decision was going to come back to bite him.

Debbie and Team Forte decided to “reflect” different features of the car with different members of the team. Let’s just say some members did better than others (ahem, Aubrey O’Day, who kept calling the Verano the Verona). Frankly, I found their presentation a little weak. I liked the concept, but I wasn’t blown away by the execution. They also crashed and burned (theres a driving pun for you) during their Q&A session, seeing as how they literally knew nothing about the car they were presenting.

Meanwhile, Adam took the reins and came up with Team Unanimous’s concept. After Michael introduced the car, team members posing as “hecklers” got Adam to present the different features of the car. Despite concern from the rest of his team members that the presentation was going to be “funny” and not “witty,” Adam stuck to his guns. I, for one, believe his risk really paid off. Overall, I thought Unanimous’s presentation went a lot smoother than Forte’s and I believe the men got their message across much better. They were also a lot better at fielding the audience’s questions.

In the boardroom, it was clear which team got along better. It wasn’t five minutes before the ladies’ claws came out. Tia Carrere and Teresa Giudice accused Debbie of not delegating well. Debbie, meanwhile, pointed the finger right back at them, accusing them both of not bringing enough to the table. I kind of have to agree with Debbie. Aside from cracking a lame joke during the presentation, Teresa spent most of the episode looking sad and confused. Come on, Teresa — you’re the housewife known for flipping a freakin’ table! You’ve got to step it up! While all this was going on, the men were busy patting themselves on the back.

But just when we thought the ladies were toast, The Donald pulled a fast one and crowned them the winners. Honestly, I think the ladies were more surprised with their win than I was — and I really thought they blew it! When Adam took a bullet by refusing to bring two people back into the boardroom with him, The Donald was none too pleased and announced two people were getting fired. In the end, Adam and Michael were given the heave-ho, Adam for choosing the losing idea and Michael for not volunteering to be project manager in the first place.

Who do YOU think deserved to win the task, HollywoodLifers? And do YOU agree with The Donald’s decision to fire two contestants?

Donald Trump: You are fired ! Trying to use Michael Andretti’s name for cheap. I would have felt so used. Good your you MIchael. Buick and Trump thought they would get your endorsement for pennies on the dolllar. Michael Andretti is the winner getting out of this crooked fixed PR box

Last night’s Celebrity Apprentice made it so obvious that the fix was in…the women’s team was so lame I was almost felt sorry for them. No way they won…..Donald you suck….and YOU’RE FIRED!

Just because Michael Andretti races cars does not mean he knows how to sell them. It was obvious that Buick and Donald wanted to use the Andretti name. It was a clear conflict on interests for Andretti, who was tied to Honda, and is now with Chevy. Don’t think they would have liked to hear him promoting other cars. However, as a huge Indycar fan, its great timing for him to be doing all the post-firing interviews when the season starts next week.

Sorry, Forgot to mention the red headed chick got the car’s name wrong twice in the presentation. What executive could possibly vote for the team that does that ?

Trump wanted Andretti to shill for Buick. How could Andretti do that and be in jeopardy of losing his sponsor ( I believe Honda ) . Also many people are right, Trump said the women won, not the Buick executives.

Look, I never have commented on any TV show, but last night’s Celebrity Apprentice really irritated me. Good television? No way. Inappropriate branding demands by Donald Trump? Absolutely. If being named the Celebrity Apprentice means selling your soul (and your reputation and name), it is pretty easy to figure out what that makes Donald Trump. Good for you Adam Corolla and Michael Andretti – at least you can hold you head up high. As for the rest of us, before supporting Donald Trump and the Buick organization, I would think you might take pause.

If all Buick wanted was attention, they should have painted the car gold and put “TRUMP” in two-foot high letters on the hood, trunk and doors. About as stupid as what they did on the Celebrity Apprentice.

Well, that ends my time as a Celebrity Apprentice viewer. I was watching it because of Carolla and he got screwed. It was funny to watch him as he realized the fix was on. When they asked him when his task went off the rails he was like “it didn’t.” It was funny as the Trumps’ tried to understand why Adam was the PM. He hosted a show called “The Car Show”! He was the perfect choice! Buick execs are retarded but Carolla doesn’t care he got the publicity he wanted and came off looking great. He was probably excited to go home and beat off.

I noticed that the Trumps didn’t say that the Buick executives picked the women team to win – only that the Trumpss felt that the women did better.

The tell was the bit about the lack of teamwork – yeah I can see that as an answer to a directed survey not a straightforward answer to who would you hire…

I hope that Buick realises that appearing on the Celebrity Apprentice was an unmitigated disaster for their brand.
and that future advertisers will shy away from these informercials.

The show has jumped the shark – there had to be at least a semblance of fairness so that I can put up with the Trumps obnoxiousness especially the loud and talentless kids to enjoy the ego-driven celebrity drama.

The problem with the episode was that Andretti was placed in a situation that was sleazy at best. Andretti is the owner of a race team that is sponsored by Honda and has been promoting that brand. Whoever made the decision to have the whole episode centred around Buick and Buick ads, believing that an Andretti would risk his name and brand identity should be fired. Andretti acted with dignity and was positive towards the Buick brand. The show is a compromise and compromises fail to launch. Shame on the production and marketing teams.

I won’t buy a Buick nor will I watch the remaining episodes of celebrity apprentice. Adam Carolla is the car guy. He knows his stuff. Michael Andretti was right there on stage with him. Buick and Trump are idiots for firing them. The womens team clearly got whooped. Buick doesn’t deserve Carolla or Andretti to go anywhere near their car. Last night was clear evidence that Celebrity Apprentice is fixed and people are fired before the competition even begins.

After last night’s rigged episode, CP has finally jumped the shark. Will not be watching this farce anymore. More important, real television shows to watch. Sending Carolla and Andretti home after it was revealed that the competition was decided before hand even though the Buick people LOVED the men’s presentation showed the non-reality reality show.

I think Donald went off the track on this one. Lou should have been the one to go and if Adam would have brought him back in the board room he would have been. Michael did not deserve to go. I flet sorry for him. I think Adam did just fine describing the options in the car including the engine they didn’t need Michael to do that. They wanted to use him and his name to sell the car. Not sure if that would be legal. Any lawyers out there to comfirm my comment?

It was apparent from the outset that Trump wanted Andretti out merely because he didn’t latch on to the project manager role for the task. And this episode reinforces my belief that the decisions about who wins these “celebrity” efforts is largely predetermined based on ratings, making the whole thing even a bigger farce than it is on its face.

Carolla made a brilliant point – the teams were *not* judged as Trump’s son specifically stated they would be at the outset of the task. I almost expected Penn Gillette (sp) to call Trump on it again just before Andretti was fired. Just as Gillette was calling Trump on his incorrect assessment of Andretti’s participation, Trump knew what was coming, and axed Andretti. I think it was because Trump knew he couldn’t defend the firing in practical terms.

Ultimately, the team wasn’t judged at all – Andretti was blackballed, and Trump wouldn’t hear of any notions to the contrary. The notion that Trump decided to fire two people was merely faux theater – Andretti was pre-determined to be the one fired.

This doesn’t even begin to address that, as nice as he may be, Lou Ferrigno is a petulant child. This group of men is too nice to get too brutal about this particular issue, but that fact is emerging more each week. Andretti never had a chance.

Even car racing gives everyone a shot. Too bad Trump can’t make the same claim.

Hope the Buick execs are happy today! They were able to take the BRAND and really dig a big hole for themselves with Mr. T’s temper tantrum tonight. It was so stupid what went down in that boardroom and it is the last time I will tune in…..
oh and BUICK………guess you are proud of a bunch of spoiled obnoxious, squabbling women as your BRAND reps…..

Since Andretti didn’t step up as PM, the men’s team lost that competition before it even started. The sad part is that the opposite holds true: if he was PM, then they would have won regardless of their performance. Oh well…so much for the Apprentice…and so much for the Buick Serano…I doubt I’ll remember either one of them by the end of the week.

I was also suprised that the race car driver wasn’t the project manager but I think the two that should have gone was Lou and the red headed singer. (sorry can’t think of his name) Alls Lou does is complain and he is two faced. He should be appointed project manager so he can fall on his face. What a whiner and complainer he is. And CLay (remembered his name) WHAT DOES HE EVER DO!!!!!! At least Adam stepped up and did something which is more than Clay or Lou ever do. CLay would make a good politician. But Adam should have NEVER fired himself. Donald doesn’t respect quitters and that is not what the show is about. But then how many people respect Donald?

Big fan, but tonight’s show was disappointing on two levels. First firing Adam and Michael was Donald’s ego trying to sell Buick instead of the performance of the men! Lou should have been FIRED!!!! Second not one word about long time friend Dennis Gomes passing. All over Atlantic city casinos, employees, and friends mourned his death! I guess Donald was to busy making horrible decisions to say a word about a man who helped make him a casino mogul. Shame on you Mr.TRUMP!!!!!!!

The executive who tried to brand the Buick Verano as a chick car and whore out Michael Andretti’s name should have been fired. The bit with “one-trick pony” Ferrigno fell flat. The whole thing was about a prissy little Buick Executive and his ad man. Carolla and Andretti was robbed. I have more respect for Carolla than I do for Trump whose reputation seems as deep as a dollar bill. As a long-time Buick owner, I am ashamed for the brand. But, then again, it is Government Motors and it smacks of effeminate liberal groupthink.

I can’t believeTrump… he fired to keep Buick on is advertisement payroll. That is crap… Won’t be watching this show anymore.. Trump you are fired. Adam stood up for his team and lost it. He admitted to it. You fired Andretti for your own gain. You are known for $ that doesn’t mean you print it.

Buick did not help their brand by going on Apprentice. They were probably convinced by trump’s ppl that Andretti would pimp himself out for their car and when it didn’t work out that way trump fired him since he really has no other use for him. America is not stupid and I think this is the beginning of the end for The Apprentice. Its already been over for Buick for many years.

I also thought Trump and the GM guys were so mad that Andretti wasn’t there helping them pump the ads that even though the guys’ presentation was multiples better, they had it out for Andretti from the beginning – all of the Trumps did. There is no way that what the women did was convincing at all…. The fix was in…. Now we’re going to have to struggle watching Ferrigno try and manage a project…. I thought Adam was a class act in backing Andretti the way he did…. Kudos to you Adam…. And he was the man for taking the bullet for the team…. I’ve watched your show for a long time Donny, but you just lost a lot of credibility on this one…. Permanent damage to the reputation of the show…. We all saw through it….

Adam went out on his shield – much respect.

This show is a POS………..it finally hit home tonight when they fired Michael Andretti. All Trump wants is to pull strings and when he didn’t get what he wanted, he picked up his ball and went home…but before he did, he railroaded Andretti, right out of his stupid show. Done with it….for good! That was total BS…period!

Adam is my hero. He took full responsibility for the project and really hit a home run. He was the perfect choice for the task, and he nailed it. I don’t know much about how the show works, but as a first time viewer, seemed like the men never stood a chance. The women made so many mistakes yet somehow prevailed? Trump is an even bigger douche than I thought, can’t wait to here Adam talk about this on his podcast.

Those two guys are too good for Trump anyway. Bye bye Apprentice…you will never have me as a viewer again. And Buick? NEVER will I purchase another Buick or a GM product for that matter.
