'The Bachelor' Finale Recap: Ben Flajnik & Courtney Robertson Get Engaged

Is that a collective groan we heard when Ben asked Courtney to marry him?

Yes, it happened, Bachelor fans. Ben Flajnik gave Courtney Robertson the final rose, breaking Lindzi Cox‘s heart in the process.

It all began with Ben ruminating over which lucky lady will at some point become his ex. (I mean, these couples never last, am I right?)

Before Ben whisks Lindzi and Courtney away on their final dates, the women have to meet his mom and his sister.

Now you’d think that they would immediately like Lindzi and hate Courtney — especially since Ben’s sister Julie says she is really good at reading girls.

Although Ben’s family likes Lindzi, they are won over by Courtney, and they both agree that she would be the best pick for him. The model is really good at playing everyone, isn’t she? And where are Julie’s so-called “women reading” skills?

Next up — the dates. Lindzi and Ben have a perfectly pleasant picnic in a gondola overlooking the Matterhorn. She opens up a tiny bit, but it’s later on in the night when she tells Ben she loves him. And she tells him she doesn’t expect him to say anything in return. You can tell there’s little heat between these two.

Courtney and Ben, however, genuinely seem like a couple. The annoying baby talk and their cutesy snow angels are things real live people do in actual relationships — you have your quirks and inside jokes, and clearly these two do, too.

Back in Courtney’s “humble abode,” Courtney gives Ben a scrapbook and reads him a love note. But she gets upset when he doesn’t return her “I love you,” and they get into a small quarrel.

And finally, the big day is here.

“This is the first time in my life I feel like someone loves me as much as I love them,” Ben says as he approaches the spot where he will propose. Will he end up regretting his words?

“This is a moment girl’s dream of their whole life,” Lindzi’s voiceover says. I have a feeling it’s not, Lindzi.

Lindzi gets out of her helicopter first, which spells certain doom for our favorite equestrian.

“I want you to know that I’ve fallen in love with you. But, I need those moments to last a lifetime, and I’ve found that with someone else. I’m in love with someone else. I want you to know it didn’t come easy,” Ben tells a crestfallen Lindzi.

“I’m mad at myself for not giving you what you needed,” Lindzi exclaims. Oh girl, don’t blame yourself. Ben’s the idiot that picked wrong.

And now comes the gross part, when Ben proposes to Courtney. But not before he fakes us out and makes us think he’s not going to ask her. But he does.

“This whole experience and journey has been worth it, every step of the way. So, with all of that said,” Ben gushes as he gets down on one knee. “Courtney, will you marry me?”

“Yes, of course I will,” Courtney answers, more excited by the ring than by Ben.
