Kelly will search across the country for two musical nobodies and turn them into superstars — but since she got her start by winning ‘American Idol,’ does this seem a little odd?
Kelly Clarkson along with Robin Thicke, Lionel Richie and Jennifer Nettles will star in the new singing competition show Duets, set to premiere this summer on ABC, People reports. “The simple fact that I get to go out and find two people I believe in, sing with them every week and help them accomplish their dream is an amazing thing I can’t wait to be a part of,” Kelly said in a press release from ABC.
The musical superstars will span out across America to find their duet partners and will perform with one of their discoveries live on stage each week.
Kelly certainly owes a large part of her success to that other singing competition show, American Idol. As the show’s premiere winner, she has gone on to sell 20 million albums worldwide and post seven singles on the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
“I figured I’d get to sing and make some money to pay the bills,” Kelly said about auditioning and performing on Idol.
Will Duets launch the career of another talented singer as Idol did for Kelly? And do we really have room for another singing-competition show on television?
