We Need To Stand Up To Radio Host Rush Limbaugh's War On Women, Including Sandra Fluke!

Tue, March 6, 2012 10:26am EDT by 49 Comments
Rush Limbaugh Sandra Fluke

Have you ever used a contraceptive? Then talk show host Rush Limbaugh probably thinks you’re a ‘slut’ or a ‘prostitute,’ too. That’s what he called Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke because she wants the college’s health insurance to cover contraceptives!

Did you know that most health insurance plans cover the cost of Viagra, the prescription medication for men? Doesn’t that enable men with “erectile dysfunction” to be able to perform sexually (i.e. to have sex?) But does Rush Limbaugh believe men have a right to enjoy sex as a “social activity” and that their health insurance should enable them to do that? Apparently he does! He must think that’s OK because he’s never publicly attacked a man for obtaining Viagra that’s paid for by health insurance.

However, he did spend three hours each day for three days last week personally attacking law student Sandra Fluke, 30, on his radio show, because she dared to testify to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee on Feb 23 about mandated private health coverage for contraceptives. She believes that her school,  Georgetown University , should cover the cost of birth control pills in the health insurance they offer their female students. I bet Viagra is covered for the guys!

Rush told Sandra that he would personally pay for the “aspirin” for Georgetown University students to “hold between their knees” as contraception. He accused Sandra Fluke of having so much pre-marital sex that she was “going broke.” He said that if Sandra or other female Georgetown University students want their contraceptives to be paid for by health insurance companies that they should pay us (i.e. Rush Limbaugh) back by videotaping themselves having sex and then posting the videos, so he could see them.

Is Rush disgusting or what? He publicly called a brave young law student a “slut” and a “prostitute” because she stood up for something that most American women use — contraceptives. He insulted her and the women of Georgetown University 53 times and said that if they ever engaged in sex, which he described as a “social activity”, then they were “sluts” and “prostitutes!”

He has never insulted men for having sex or implied that they were engaging in an illegal activity if they had sex.

And since the number of Americans actually getting married is at an all-time low and the number of children born to unmarried parents is at an all-time high, then he was pretty much insulting millions and millions of Americans, of both sexes.

I don’t even actually think Rush Limbaugh feels that your marital status prevents you from being a “slut” or a “prostitute.” It’s his opinion that if you believe that birth control pills, like almost all prescription drugs, should be covered by health insurance plans, then you’re a “slut” and a “prostitute” because you are obviously having sex that’s not just to procreate and health insurance plans shouldn’t pay for that.

Of course, he doesn’t have a problem with health insurance covering treatment for lung cancer, which is the result of another social activity — smoking — or from covering treatment for heart attacks which are often the result of another social activity — overeating — or even from covering the cost of concussions or broken limbs, which are the result of social activities like skiing or playing football.

Jeez, if we refused to allow health insurance to cover the cost of any illness or injury that resulted from a “social activity,” then kids who accidentally fall off a jungle gym at a birthday party couldn’t get an MRI or your dad who pulled a muscle in his back at his bowling league, couldn’t get that treatment covered either. Or if you caught mononucleosis from your boyfriend, you wouldn’t deserve to have your medicine paid for by health insurance because maybe you got it through the “social activity “of kissing.

It’s time for Rush Limbaugh to be pulled off the air for spewing hatred at women. If he was calling a race or an ethnic group, these terrible names, it wouldn’t be tolerated. And his meagre attempts to apologize to Sandra Fluke wouldn’t be accepted.

It’s 2012 and we’re not second class citizens who should be insulted just because we’re women.

If you want to protest against Rush Limbaugh and demand that he be pulled from the airwaves, click here and sign the petition!

I only have a small comment but I was reading up on what rush said because I missed it and this is the only site I’ve read. However its a typical female activist blogger that says her mind about the issue and the posts a “let’s hang rush” column on her blog, but let me ask you this is male ED a medical condition, I would say so. Is female contraceptive a medical condition…no its a choice, you are compairing apples to oranges with your viagra vs birth control argument. So next time you decide to blog something make sure your argument is valid.

Also please excuse any typos as I am on my phone.

Then we also need to stand up to Bill Maher for calling Sarah Palin the “c” word. We need to stand up to Ed Schultz for calling Laura Ingram a “right wing slut”.

Oh…and a 30 year old law student is hardly a “college student”. She is an activist who put herself out there to testify before a mock congressional hearing.

Not quite the innocent that people are making her out to be.

That’s ridiculous. Just because slutty college girls want to go and have sex like wild monkeys doesn’t mean we, the people, should have to pay for it. If the girls want BC, pay for it yourself. And if they’re spending too much money on BC each year, then here’s a great solution: don’t have sex and keep your damn legs closed! God, people are idiots.

Obviously Rush did not call her a slut because she uses contraceptives, people have been using them for years. He considered her a slut ( he could have used a better word) because she couldn’t afford all the contraceptives that she uses over the period of a year. Frankly, I think she should slow up her sexual activity and concentrate on her law career. I suggest that she see a Doctor before she ends up with a different career.

Going before Nanny Polosi to complain about BC? This woman is so far out from the real world its scary. I’m sure she will make a great lawyer!

i would be interested to know if rush’s rehab for his oxy addiction was covered by insurance. that said, my understanding is that the argument at issue wasn’t about whether or not insurance should cover these basic items, but whether a religious entity that does not believe in contraception should have to pay for it or provide it. this does not justify rush’s bullying and attack on women who have non-procreative sex, but i think the basic discussion that was at issue with fluke should not be lost sight of. i’m told that she did take some ridiculous positions that led to this attack also- artificially inflating the cost of a year’s worth of contraceptives to highlight the potential damage to the students. again, i don’t condone the personal attack on a citizen trying to participate in the legislative process, nor do i condone the blatantly gender discriminatory way with which pigs like beck and limbaugh responded- however, i don’t condone playing fast and loose with the facts the way i am told fluke did, either.

It doesn’t matter if Rush’s rehab for drug addiction was covered or not. It it was, it is HIS insurance that HE paid for. Fluke (by her own admission) researched Georgetown Univ. health plan before she went there. She KNEW they did not cover BC’s. She KNEW the cost of going to that school ( $60,000/yr). She decided to go there fully knowing that BC’s would not be covered under that particular insurance plan.

She is a liberal planted pot-stirrer.

As far as the name calling, I agree with you. It was ugly and hateful and there is no place for it in today’s society.

However, what really chaps me is the hypocrisy of the liberals. Where was their outrage when Bill Maher called Sarah Palin the “c” word without ever issuing an apology? Where was the liberal outrage when Ed Schultz called Laura Ingram a “right wing slut”?

Did Obama call either one of those ladies? Nope! Were there calls from the liberals to boycott Maher or Schultz? Nope!

Liberals are complete and total hypocrites!

Did you as to stand up to Bill Maher, when he called Sarah Palin a ‘c*nt’?
Didyou stand up to David Letterman when he suggested to ‘rape’ Sarah Palins daughter Bristol Palin?
Did you stand up, when Laura Ingram was called a ‘slut’ on TV?
Did you stand up, when Sarah Palin was told that her son who has Down syndrome, needed to abort him, that he’s a burden on society?

I could go on, hopefully you get my point. Don’t be selective in your outrage; be supportive of all women, not only those who you like! that is what it’s called ‘hypocrite’!

Rhonda, read what I said again. I said that Bonnie’ s articles are entertainment for the most part. I come on here for entertainment purposes. It makes no sense to come on here for her Opinion on a political issues. You have the right to feel how you want about Rush and how or what he said however I have a feeling that most people that oppose his views don’t and have not listen to him I his entirety. Most outlets only report half of what is said on his program therefore you are not getting the entire story so almost anything can sound bigoted or full of hate. We all must hear all sides with our own ears in order to have any discussion on the topic. Even then, I don’t have agree with you nor do you have to agree with me. That’s Freedom Baby …… If you don’t like what he say continue not listening to his program. Since Georgetown is a Catholic institution and they don’t believe in birth control Why must they have it covered? If I believe iin my right to birth controll and I want it covered then I need educate myself and attend a school who has it in their coverage.

I know how to keep my legs closed and I don’t expect you or anyone else to pay for my birth control….. That is my opinion lets see if YOUR EGO will allow it.

Okay Gloria, no insults, I am waiving the white flag. Limbaugh sounds like the biggest mysogonist, how does his comments to Fluke not insult you? Fluke did not say she wanted BC covered by insurance or for free so she could have sex. She spoke of a friend that lost an ovary.
It was overkill the way he slammed Fluke. Shameful. That’s why 30 companies have now yanked their commercials and even the band Rush won’t allow him to use their music on his show.
I write a check for $447.00 a month for health insurance, this is a lot of money for me. I go to the doctor maybe 3 times a year for the usual check ups, never when I am sick, but like clockwork, my premium goes up every year due to the rising cost of healthcare. Is it too much to freaking ask that my BC monthly prescription is covered? It’s about time someone brought this up. I am disgusted that Fluke was ridiculed by Limbaugh. I pay top dollar for health care and my health care provider won’t cover my BC prescription. BTW, I am not a prostitute.

Don’t take my opinion as an insult to you Gloria. In light of the fact that a lot of us pay high health insurance premiums, it is my opinion that health insurance should pay for birth control prescriptions and help us out a little bit. I’m not asking for lip injections or diet pills. There are no free clinics in my town and why should I go to one when I have insurance. I honestly don’t beleive it is too much to ask for. And anyone that says so should not be ridculed or considered a whore. We’re all human for christ sake.

Ok Truth let’s discuss… Please go and read Flukes testimony. Georgetown’ s coverage does pay for BC for medical conditions but not to prevent pregnancies. Her testimony did not cover any specifics as to the exact reason why her friend did get the coverage. Or if the friend appealed the decision an so on. That is an important part of the story for me. How do I know that this story is even true??? Next, let’s say 30 companies pull commercials which is false but let’s just say. Pulled commercials and lost sponsors are two different things. 30 companies did not leave the network in which Rush is affiliated with. Now lastly, I work for a hospital and I feel for you having to pay soooo much for your healthcare. However once it is mandatory for all insurance company’s to provide BC to everyone you will be writing that check not for $477 but for much more to cover everyone’s cost.

Kristen – Ms Fluke is a PRIVATE person – not public as in Sarah Palin, and Rush’s diatribe is that much more severe because of this.

President Obama DID call on all people – especially comics and pundits – to stop saying cruel things, particularly saying “children” were off limits.

Give me an example of any liberal saying anything even close to what Rush said about this young woman. He spewed his filth for three days. Who comes close on the progressive side? I’m serious. If someone on the left has, I’d really like to know.

Liz, where do you get your info? You won’t pay a dime for her ‘fun’. The insurance company that covers (including BC ) the staff and teachers at Georgetown will be picking up the tab, although the students will pay the premiums as always for their mandated health care. ( mandated by the school) That is what Ms Fluke was fighting for; to receive the same coverage that the faculty gets. Wow. How sinister.

Pres. Obama called her because she was invited by congress to speak and all she got for her trouble was to be drug through the mud by that gasbag Rush. Obama’s a decent man and felt sorry for the crap Rush and FIX news has done to her. Is that really so hard for you to understand?

All the students wanted was the same access to coverage that the faculty gets. That includes birth control. They are mandated by Geogetown to carry health insurance and don’t receive birth control coverage, yet the faculty does. They pay their premiums and should have equal access. Taxpayers have nothing to do with this. Turn off FAUX.

Many women take birth control pills for medical reasons such as cysts and endometriosis. I had excruciating periods (one time the pain was so bad I fainted) so I was prescribed birth control pills.

Most men who take Viagra take it for the sole purpose of keeping a limp dick stiff while banging their latest trophy wife.

Then by your own argument most women take BCP so they can screw anyone they want anytime they want and act like sluts.

Viagra is taken by SOME men to counter pulmonary hypertension. The same as SOME women take BCP to help with uterine issues.

You need a better argument!

susan, while i think i get your general points, you should educate yourself about what the actual issue was/is before you go around wagging your finger. it wasn’t about making the government pay for anything (government probably already does pay for this, for the people it insures), nor was it about making an insurer have to pay for anything (i think most insurers do pay for this as a general matter). the issue at hand was whether a religious institution (a jesuit school, i believe) should have to pay for this type of policy or contraception.
